About Chopta Tourism
Chopta is a beautiful village in the Rudraprayag district of the state of Uttarakhand. It is situated on the Chandra Parbat and is known for its virgin beauty and scenic landscape. The quaint hamlet is famous for its green grassland known locally as ‘bugyals’.

One can get beautiful views of the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas from here and the alpine forests add to the beauty of the place. Located at an altitude of 2680 meters above sea level, Chopta enjoys a perfect weather almost throughout the year, although it gets quite cold in winter and enjoys snowfall during the peak of winter.

The town is usually the starting point of quite a few treks especially to Panch Kedar due to the close proximity. Tungnath which is the highest peak in the Panch Kedars is a 3.5 km trek from Chopta, and at a further 1.5 km distance away is Chandrashila.

Visitors and Lord Shiva devotees to the famous temple, Tunganath Mandir, pass though Chopta as this is the best starting point for the trek up the mountain which leads to the temple at a distance of 3 km.

Though comparatively unexplored, the scenic village has been gradually gaining importance as a popular tourist destination. Nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts flock to the place as it is a perfect destination for trekking and camping.

The forest here is known for its rich variety of flora and fauna, and is famous for its expanse of rhododendron and deodar trees. Moreover, the place is well connected by motorable road which has helped it gain popularity in recent years as a tourist destination.

There are quite a few places near Chopta which are popular tourist destinations as well. The picturesque town of Gopeshwar is at a distance of 39 km from Chopta, while the Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary which is a perfect place to witness the wildlife of the region is around 7 km from here. The town of Ukhimath known as the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath is at a distance of 31 km from Chopta.

The best time to visit the place is during the months of April to June when the whole area looks lush green and the weather is perfect for exploration. The harsh chill of the winter disappears during this time making it ideal for a holiday or a nature expedition.

"Such a crap" new review

Chopta Experience: Chopta is nothing but a taxi stand with very poor hotel service, worst food in the world.and no existent development. the only saving grace is the temprature which is cool during summer but i wouldnt go 350 km from Haridwar on a hill top for this kind of weather. The only reason if you are going there is religious reason , so dont fool your self with the photos of Chopta.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is worst..there is nothing for sight seeing there.
Activities & things to do: Nothing
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Only go with the local driver and that too in small cars/vehicles.

"Chopta - Switzerland of India" new review

Chopta Experience: Chopta with clean and green views of tranquil hill stations and deep, dark night sky with twinkling stars is really charming. The various mountain peaks, expedition to Lord Tunganath from where various snowcapped peaks with magnificent sunlight and coniferous trees and the meadows [the 'Bugyals'] will definitely give mental peace and soothing feelings. But the over-priced non-standard, insufficient accommodation options and other lack of usual amenities can annoy. However, the town still has several hidden spots that make it worth a visit in the monsoon and winter months.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: No standard shops for food. Trekking to Lord Tunganath - a three and half kilometer [3 to 4 hours trekking] on well built road with shadow of long trees is very exciting. One can approach Auli/Joshimath/Badrinathji via Gopeswar/Chamoli for other attractions.
Activities & things to do: Only to enjoy the beautiful creation of the God with all the six senses. Just swallow the variable pleasant beauty of nature. Trek to Lord Tunganath Ji and pray for his blessings.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Reach Chopta via Rudrapryag from Haridwar/Rishikesh or from Mussoourie by Bus or by car-8 to 9 hours journey. It is better to stay one night at Rudrapryag- the confluence of the river Mandakini and Alakananda - and enjoy its beauty. Rudrapryag is almost at half-way distance of Haridwar/Rishikesh and Chopta.
