"Coorg in December"

Coorg Experience: overall coorg was ok....if u r really interested in seeing aa better place, you can consider Kodaikaanaal than coorg i stayed in a home staay caalled 'Rashi Comforts' which was very good. the ownersare good and the cost is under rupees 1200.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Pork and wine the best in coorg....'coorg cuisinette' is a very good restaurent for pork and goodveg dishes s well. rate is very nominal and quality is good. another hotel was 'hotel choice'. both the hotels are in madikeri, coorg. never miss golden temple which is caalled the tibetan settlement...it is very good..try to visit this temple in the evening around 3.30 pm. there will be a lady selling some special item for the monks in the campus. it is so cheap and tsty as well. it is a round shaped snack with red spicy chutney. buy bhel puri at Rajaa's seat.
Activities & things to do: just relax and go for trekking
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: i would visit kodaaikanal than coorg

"Coorg - An Ideal vacation"

Coorg Experience: Coorg is a hill station offering everything a tourists needs. It has nature, wildlife, Tibetan culture, adventure, home stay, etc. It can be visited by people of any age as it has something for everyone.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Coorgi Food is enjoyed best at Home stay. Coffee is their main Beverage. Nisargdham is a small island having a deer park, Elephant ride, many Tree top Sit-outs, and also offers overnight stay facilities. Bylakuppe has the largest Tibetan seettlement in India. It has a beautiful Buddhists Monastery and has many shops selling products relating to buddhism. Talacauvery is the birth place of River Cauvery and is around 50 kms from Madikeri Capital of Coorg. Good Scenic Views can be seen from the top. Raja's Seat is best visited during sunset. Abbey Falls is 5 kms from the town. The place was littered badly when we visited. A must visit place is the Dubare Elephant camp where you can bath, scrub, feed and ride the Elephant.
Activities & things to do: Raja's Seat has a mini Train, a small play park for children, and a musical fountain. Nisargdham and Dubare both offer Elephant rides. Seasonal White water rafting is also there in Coorg.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Reach Dubare Elephant Camp before 9 am to avoid missing out on bathing the Elephant. Nearest railway Station and Airport is Mangalore. Due to bad roads travel time should be estimated more.

Coorg Experience: Coorg is a perfect holiday destination. Just get away from the busy city life and stay in one of those resorts outside the main town area.

Activities & things to do: Typically nothing much. Visit the sight seeing places and spend couple of days for a good holiday.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Madikeri in Coorg District is 3 hours drive from Mysore. Months to avoid - June- july when the rainy season starts.

"Lesser know - lovely Buddhist destination in India"

Coorg Experience: Although Dharamsala is a very famous tourist spot for those enchanted by the colorful prayer flags and Buddhist culture - the counterpart to this city is BYLAKUPPE in KUSHALNAGAR in COORG region, another (lesser-known) habitation for Tibetans in exile with some very cool monasteries.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There are a few very simple restaurants - however you need to have a quick dinner as most close by 8pm.
Activities & things to do: There are quite a few monasteries and a few touristy places nearby.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: All details in the blog link given above.

"Pleasant Place To See"

Coorg Experience: It was a nice experience at Coorg/Madikeri. We hired a cab from bangalore. We stayed at homestay at there which is very common.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Getting food was a problem there. Being a vegetarian, we struggled to get a GOOD food. There is one hotel called 'ATITHI' [near police station/Bus Stand] which serves veg food. But service was hectic.
Activities & things to do: Trekking
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From bangalore, mysore, mangalore, there are many buses towards madikeri. We booked a cab which also is a very good option for more than one family. It is a convenient also.

"Destination sure to be visited !!!"

Coorg Experience: Coorg is a beautiful destination sure to be visited any time of the year. This place has beautiful plantation crops filled with exotic aroma of spices. The landscapes just make a memorable impression to remember. The winding and steep pathways that leads to other nearby destinations, make us feel to be lost in the lush green Ghats. Whatever time might it be of the year, visitors are crowded to enjoy nature and forget the hustle of a city life. Not to miss the pleasant aroma of coffee estates, chirping of beautiful small birds, the gushing of small streams on cross pathways, etc.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food: There are lots of hotels & fast food centers which cater various delicious dishes (of all categories) for travelers along the main street. Sight-seeing:There are various places nearby to be visited, of which few are: Abbi Falls, Iruppu Falls, Talakaveri, Bhagamandala, Kaveri Nisargadhama, Raja's seat (Sun setting spot), Madikeri Fort, Dubare Elephant Camp, Namdroling Buddhist Monastery, etc. Shopping: Coorg is famous for its coffee & honey.
Activities & things to do: Trekking on the hills and majestic safari on elephant backs :)
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Night journey is a better way to reach Coorg in a hired vehicle from Bangalore. Alternate is to start journey in the early hours.

"Calm & Clean Coorg"

Coorg Experience: Coorg - A really clean and calm place worth spending weekend for nature lovers once per year. Coorg is full of lush greenery coffee plantations. From a traffic prone Bangalore life, driving in Coorg is like sailing in heaven. driving with big trees on the side and roads covered with its shadows. wow. We can only see another vehicle every 15 minutes except in talacauvery road. So you can stop wherever you want and enjoy the nature around you.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Places to visit: Talacauvery, Raja's seat (sunset is great from here), Tibetan Monastery, Nisargadhama (good for kids), Abbey falls (not so good)
Activities & things to do: there are no much activities in coorg. Dont miss sunset from Raja's seat and the hill view from talacauvery.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: If you are a couple take a bike for rent. you can find it in coorgtrails or kaveri or nisargadhama tourism in madikeri. Bike ride in coorg is really great. you cant feel the nature beauty when you go by car. But places in coorg are really far away from each other. so long rides can make you tired also.

"BREATHTAKING -RELAXING- WEEKEND-"

Coorg Experience: Coorg is the place to go if you are a nature lover. Undoubtedly, its the Scotland of the South India. With the beauty of the mountains, the green valley and the monsoon rains, if you really want to get drenched its a very calm place to be in.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The food predominantly is south Indian with Athithi restaurant on the way to Kushalnagar. There are a few in the main market of Madikeri. It is renowned for the coffee plantations and the honey world. If you are a coffee lover, Coorg is the place to be. Orange County has some good food for your palette too. The Tibetan monastery has good collection and souvenir shops for nears n dears. One must carry little bit of food snacks for the resorts to stay are not very near to main city.
Activities & things to do: Relax, Relax and relax....The best place to sleep after tiring journey by car, although we drove down from Bangalore... but you can sleep early and wake up early for a fresh green morning and enjoy the views
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The road from Bangalore to Madikeri is pathetic...half way through roads from Mysore go bizarre with the humps all of a sudden. By road its really tiring so have to drive carefully. Lot of places to stopover like the Kamat restaurant on Mysore road with awesome food... one must carry lot of snack items on the way, the tender coconut is in good supply on the roads. Lot of humps and cracked roads on the whole way, the valley and Ghats section is also full of curves and bounds. We stayed 6 kms from the main market; the Rock Wood Estate is full of anthurium flowers; estate is absolutely breathtaking.

"COOL n CALM COORG"

Coorg Experience: Coorg also known as the Scotland of India and Kashmir of the South, with simple folk and a very peaceful place away from the hustle & bustle of city life. We breathed in the pure oxygen all around us. A very quiet atmosphere prevails, where your senses get immersed in the beauty & serenity of the mountains & and the greenery around you. The aroma of the coffee awakens the senses which are in a slumber with the cool air around you. A sort of lethargy creeps all over you, when you take a walk in the woods, as your sight is rewarded with all sorts of birds chirping & the various sounds made by them is heavenly music for the ears.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: visited the Bagamandala Temple, then to Tala-Cauvery. then to Omkareshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. then to Abbey Falls, the water gushing from the top of the mountains and falling down was a sight to behold. went to the market place. It has got a lovely bakery with lots of delicacies, some clothes stores, spices shops etc. We bought honey, spices & PINEAPPLE PAPADS WHICH WERE UNIQUE. We headed towards “DUBARE ELEPHANT CAMP” , an elephant camp where one can interact with the elephants. we can touch, bathe & feed them. Visited the Namdroling Buddhist Monastery, which was a mammoth structure with huge imposing idols of Lord Buddha. Spoke to the monks there. Visited Nisargadama forest.
Activities & things to do: Trekking on the lovely hills and playing golf on the lush green golf course.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Hyderabad to Bangalore by train. then Bangalore to Madikeri Dist by bus. tip- take a night bus from Bangalore and wake up in Coorg early in the morning.

"The Kodava experience"

Coorg Experience: If you want to enjoy an unhurried vacation, go to Coorg. Why? I think because of the hills, greenery, friendly people, chirping birds and a freshness in the air. We stayed at Orange County, probably one of the best resorts we have in India. If you travel from Bangalore, after Mysore take the road towards Hunsur and then to Madikeri. A narrow road will lead you from the main road to the resort. The road from Bangalore to Madikeri is quite good.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: One should visit the Tibetian camp in Kushalnagar. It has the largest Tibetian settlement in India and has one of the most awe inspiring statues of the Buddha in the monastery. There are some shops that sell Tibetian handicrafts and are worth a dekko. You might be able to get a good bargain too. Try out Tibetian food here.
Activities & things to do: You can go and visit the Elephant camp in Dubare. You can get a ride on a friendly elephant and it doesn't cost much. Young children will certainly enjoy the thrill of being with nature and the elephants. You can take photos with them too. Trekking is another possibililty here. It's best to take the help of local hotels to make the arrangements for you.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: If you travel from Bangalore, then before entering Mysore take the road towards Hunsur and then to Madikeri. A narrow road will lead you from the main road to the resort. The road from Bangalore to Madikeri is quite good.

"Peace & Serenity - Bylakuppe"

Coorg Experience: Bylakuppe is welcome to everyone who yearns for a relaxing cultural getaway. The place like the Buddhist religion, is pleasant and calm. The Golden Monasteries are huge and colorful, which is a feast for the eyes of an artist. For all the art enthusiast, there are tankha arts that are painted on the walls, ceilings, pillars of the monastery. Not to forget the beautiful stupas and prayer wheels a glimpse of which will wash all the sins away, leave the walk around it.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There are 12 Camps in Bylakuppe. Camp 4 is where the golden monastery, beside which is the Hotel Choice, which serves some some tangy kerala parantha and hot curries. Near the camp 3 there is a small tibetian place the olive restaurant, which serves authentic tibetian food momo's, tigmos, thukpa, shabtra chowmein etc.. these food are avialable booth in veg and non veg. On the walk we can grab a tibetian junk called Wai Wai which are fried noodles with some masala and oil.
Activities & things to do: Activities : Mostly cultural know abouts and visit all the 3 main monasteries, there are stupas and prayer wheels which are remarkable. On the whole the place is a architectural splendor
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The largest tibetian settlement in India, which is Bylakuppe (or Bailakuppe) is the location of 'Lugsum Samdupling' (established in 1961) and 'Dickyi Larsoe' (established in 1969), two adjacent Tibetan refugee settlements, in the west of Mysore district. The nearest town is Kushalnagar in Kodagu. It lies on a flat plain at an altitude of approximately 2750ft, above sea level and the temperature ranges between 24 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit with an average rainfall of 42' to 45' annually.

"Monsoon at Coorg"

Coorg Experience: Not a good time to visit during monsoon unless you want to get drenched in the rain. The trip to Thalai Cauvery was very difficult.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Stayed and had food at Coorg International Hotel. Nice place and good hospitality. Food was neat. But choices were limited.
Activities & things to do: None. Have a good rest and sleep at Hotel
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: check weather before you travel. Avoid travelling on monsoon.

"Destination coorg"

Coorg Experience: Its beautiful espcially when one is going in pre monsoon or in monsoon season, and its trekkers' paradise. There are numerous trekking routes and adventure sports too like Kayaking and white water rafting.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: You can do shopping at Tibetan monasty and is very nice experience. Especially the fengshu items home decors, caps etc.. If you are looking for standard sight seeing spots like ooty then you will be disappointed. The best way to enjoy coorg is either u drive or keep walking / trekking!!
Activities & things to do: You require minimum 3 days to enjoy! day 1 you can cover tibetan monasty, dubare elephant camp and Kaveri Nisarga dhama on the way from blr to coorg. Day2 can be a full day trekking or relax or go for adenture sports like Kayaking / white water rafting Day3: do Kayaking and visit Coorg local temple which is near Kakkabe!!
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Banaglore we can reach coorg via Madikeri or Virajpet, better thing is to take a right after srirangpatna towards bird sanctury road. I suggest to leave early in the morning and take madikeri road so that on the way you can visit tibetan monasty, Dubare elephant camp and Kaveri nisarga dhama before adikeri and have lunch at madikeri and enjoy site seeing points in the evening in madikeri before reaching your hotel/resort. Coming back can be via Virajpet. If u r a trekker then be careful of leeches (only on treks). Best thing is to stay in one of the home stays and enjoy authentic coorg delicacies.

"Blossoms"

Coorg Experience: Known to the world as the land of spices, Coorg certainly is a nature lover’s paradise. cool lush green forests everywhere and soon you will feel like you have lost the rest of the world. Summers are best spend here according to me for its cool weather and gardens, which come in full bloom. Though it’s romantically foggy during winters and heavy rains come along during the monsoons. Its amazing to see plants covered by flowers all over. The entire land is a garden by itself. Don’t fall asleep if you are in a cab, you may loose the best view. Long walk in the coffee estates, watching the pepper, cinnamon grow around you.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The Buddhist temple (gold plated) in Kushalnagar is a highlight for its huge idols and the place itself – students and their rituals. Another halt can be, Kaveri Nisargardham, a park with boating and elephant ride. Dubare is an elephant camp one can visit to enjoy riding and bathing them. Also see the Raja’s seat. You may not find many souvenirs to carry away other than the China from the shops around the Buddhist temple, the best souvenirs would be coffee powder, spices and found memories.
Activities & things to do: Nature trails, elephant rides, bathing elephants, trekking are good but a visit inside the coffee estates are a must.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Situated on the Western Ghats of Karnataka in South India, the ideal route would be to go via Bangalore. It will be a quite, relaxed holiday amidst nature.

"Coorg - Natural Beauty"

Coorg Experience: A beautiful experience to stay in the district of Coorg . . . Beautiful bamboo loft accomodation available in the heart of the district. An experience worth having in your life to visit this district and enjoy nature.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Crossing the Cauvery river in a cornacle to view the beautiful and an elephant knowledge bank is the Elephant camp. Then there is this beautiful Tibetian colony. The carvings and paintings in the temple are excellent. Not to forget the beautiful delicacies the coorgians cook.
Activities & things to do: A beautiful place to take a break from the routine life. Lot of places to go around in the district. Tibetian colony, Elephant camp, Cauvery river.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Luxury bus rides from Bangalore is the best mode to reach the 5 hour long stretch from the Bangalore bus depot to Coorg bus depot.

"Coorg"

Coorg Experience: At May end Coorg was warm, so did not escape much of Bangalores heat. Madikeri is a small town, with not much to do within the town itself.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Places to see include Abbey Falls (8km from Madikeri), Bhagamandala Temple (30+km from Madikeri, Talacauvery - source of the Cauvery (40+km from Madikeri), Rajahs Seat in Madikeri. You will need an entire day to see all above the sights, since thay are all quite far from Madikeri. Stretches of road to Talacauvery are narrow and in poor shape. You can also visit Nagarhole and Nisargadhama You can shop for coffee, honey and spices.
Activities & things to do: Walking, shopping and you can arrange to have spicy plantation lunch.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Travelled from Bangalore by car. The Mysore Highway has been widened and relaid. Turned off the highway to Madikeri before reaching Mysore. Long stretches of road after turning off the highway are in extremely bad shape (May 2006), as the road was being widened and relaid. The drive took around 5 1/2 hours despite the poor stretches of road.
