"Deoghar tour"

Deoghar Experience: Good in winter, worst in rainy season, particularly during birth month of Lord SHIVA.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Average food, not so much shopping facilities. For site seeing it is better to arrange for two days to cover all places of interest covering 50 Km radius, best is Ramakrishna Ashram and Trikut Hill.
Activities & things to do: Nothing to mention especially as the city has not developed at all in last 20 years
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Better to travel in car for the visitors of near by areas. Other wise railway reservation.

"Visit to the Deoghar Baidyanath temple (Aug 2012)"

Deoghar Experience: The Baba Baidyanath temple is the site of one of the twelve jyothirlingas (it is not clear whether this temple is referred in the Shiv Purana or the Vaidyanath temple in Parli Maharashtra). A visit to the temple is best avoided during the month of Shravan and the subsequent month since pilgrims come from all over the state and other neighboring states to visit the Shiv mandir. There is total chaos in the place as the temple does not have a good crowd control process. The normal route to the sanctum sanctorum is always crowded and lots of people try to prefer the side entrance from inside the premises resulting in a huge concentration of people inside the temple, all jostling to get into the entrance first.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We stayed at Hotel Baidyanath and the food available was good though premium compared to the other hotels. Hotel Baidyanath is also a good place to stay. Apparently the only other competition to Hotel Baidyanath is Hotel Mahadev Palace.
Activities & things to do: Other than the Baidyanath temple, one can visit the Basukinath temple which is 50 km from Deoghar, Tapovan and Trikut. Trikut has a few temples but people normally visit the place to experience the ropeway. Tapovan is an interesting place for the adventurous as one has to climb over, slide through/down rocks to be able to sight a figure of Hanuman that is visible in a rock fissure. There is
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The closest rail head is Jasidih junction and there are a lot of trains from Patna (4 hrs) and Howrah (4-30 hrs). We had booked our train tickets from Varanasi and the train was supposed to reach Jasidih (the closest junction about 7 km from Deoghar) at 10 pm. We were skeptical about the place since it was our first visit and arranged a cab from the hotel. However when we arrived at Jasidih junction, the place was buzzing with activity. Autorickshaws are available in Jasidih and in Deoghar and one can see 6-8 people travelling one. These autorickshaws can also be used for local sight-seeing (to visit Basukinath Mandir, Tapovan.

"A small place with lots to relish"

Deoghar Experience: Its a nice place where one can really find peace as there r lots of ashrams. Its a place of spirituality where natural beauty prevails. Above all its one of the jyotirlingas of lord shiva. Worshipers come from distant places to visit the temple. Its really incredible that tourists go from Sultanganj to Deoghar (109km approx.) barefooted just to show their devotion for lord shiva.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Well, one must try mouthwatering masala dosa and kachouri sabzi in one of the hotels near the temple.
Activities & things to do: One can do kind of mountaineering at Tapovan, Boating & sight seeing at Nandan pahar, visit to ashrams to feel the peace of mind...
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Dont get conned by the local pandits(pandas). Enjoy :)

"Deogarh worship"

Deoghar Experience: The city has its main market place near the temple door.it is a very narrow road and is always crowded.the is a lake near the temple were the people take bath before visiting the temple.the entire temple consists of 22 temples out of which the shiv, parvati and bharro temple are the main ones.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The best restaurant cannot be guessed since there are many good restaurants in the city.the baazar near the temple is very attractive.
Activities & things to do: The things to be done is to enjoy taking bath in the shiv gange lake and then go for worshiping the temple and ask any wish with god and it will be fulfilled.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The most comfortable is to travel by train since the roads nearby are not good. be alert since there are a lot of robberies in this area.

Activities & things to do: Just To Cherish The Beauty Of The nature. One can also visit Giridih, just 65 Kms away. Places to visit at Giridih---Keshri Falls & Khandoli Park.

"From mundane to the Divine"

Deoghar Experience: Having seen enough of luxury destinations and star hotels,we wanted to visit a place which could take us to a proximity to gods, even if it was not to offer us luxuries usually associated with holidays. We chose Deoghar,in Jharkhand,India, wnich is also known as Baidya nath Dham or Baba Dham, meaning the abode of Lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jyotir lingas, and Lord Shiva is worshipped here as a Divine Healer.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Inspite of being a place of religious pilgrimage, the place has a number of fairly good hotels which offer you comfortable lodging at reasonable rates. On checking in,the first thing to do is to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva. The main temple is located within the city, and you can either walk or take a rickshaw. After that, you must visit the Basukinath temple(about 45 kms.).The next day you can visit the Rikhia Ashram, which is a centre for Yoga and meditation. The other places to visit are the Balanand Ashram, the Naulakha temple,Trikut Dham and Tapovan, the last one being the site where a number of sages had done their Tapasya.
Activities & things to do: Having done your obeisance, you can do a bit of shopping. The Deoghar bazaar is the supply centre to nearby small towns and villages, and you can pick up nice bargains in woollen garments ,bangles, and wood and stone artefacts. You must not forget to buy a few packets of Pedas and tilkuts for which the place is famous.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: The town of Deoghar is approachable from Jasidih railway station, which is a major junction on the Howrah-Delhi route. The Kolkat rajdhani and Poorva Express are the main trains passing through Jasidih. If you choose to go by air,the the choice is between Ranch,Patna and Calcutta, from each of which it is about six hrs. road journey. The trip will rejuvenate you, apart from securing for you the blessings of Lord Shiva( assuming,of course, that you have gone there with a reverential frame of mind).

"Baidyanathdham Temple"

Deoghar Experience: In Deoghar, we have one of the very powerful Jyothirlinga temples of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Vishwa Karma, the legendary architect, has himself built this temple.Deoghar is also considerd to be a Health Resort City, since many Jadi-Bhooties are available in the forests surrounding Deoghar.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We stayed in Jyothi Hotel which is at a distance of about seven/eight minutes walk from the temple. Transport facility is quite good as you can travel by autos, cycle rickshaws or the Phatpatis or even vans. We had our lunch at the Jyothi Hotel itself and the quality of food and their service was quite good.Deoghar does not have any good as special for shopping and mainly it has several shops for eateries.
Activities & things to do: The main purpose is to have darshan of the Lord. It was quite tough to enter the holy sanctum as the crowd is ovewhelming. You have to carefully engage a Panda and his assistant will help you in having a good darshan. All your valuables are to be given extra attention, as pickpocketing and chain snathching in the stampede for darshan is quite common. The temple complex is also slippery as so called ganga water is spilled everywhere in the temple compound. But the devotion of the local people towards the Lord is marvellous.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: We travelled from Kolkata (Howrah) by Dhanapur Express upto Jasidih Station and from there hired a Maruthi van to reach Deoghar, which is at a distance of about seven/eight kms. The train travel from Howrah to Jasidih takes anything between five to eight hours, depending upon the train you board.Beware and take care of all your belongings at all these places. Overall, we were quite happy with the travel and darshan of the Lord.

"Deoghar Dec 2009"

Deoghar Experience: If you have pilgrimage in mind, Deoghar is great. Along with it you can enjoy the excellent Trikut Ropeway (8am to 5pm). It has an elevation of 44 degrees. Avoid holidays for such visits. It is crowded and dirty. Never have food in road side hotel. Drink a lot of water where it is served clean. It helps in digestion and increases your appetite. Keep not more than 3 days. Road are not that good, trains are better. Prefer AC compartments. You may club Maithan/Madhupur/Giridih.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Stay in a good hotel and have food there. Enjoy tea in the roadside stalls. Tower chowk have some excellent roadside snack bars. Enjoy the food if you are not prone to dysentery. Enjoy Trikut ropeway. Buy pendas and oranges (Rs.30 per kg). Have kheer malai.
Activities & things to do: Enjoy food, water and the hills around.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Avoid visiting the temple if it is crowded. Prefer evening and night visits. Please check Baba dham website to know the timings. Carry dysentery pills. Drink local water from a purifier. Believe the pandas with decent shops of Pendas. They will help you a lot.

"B. Deoghar an Ultimate Secret Holy Destination"

Deoghar Experience: Baidyanath Dham Deoghar is one of the most secret destinations of Indian tourism. Many parts are untouched till recently. It is not only Manokamna Jyotirlingam peeth as mentioned in Padma Purana one can get salvation by visiting the temple once in life time - 'An amaging holy experience'. The lone 'Chandrakanta mani' is fitted in central side of baba temple from where minute water droplets continuously falls over lingam and it is said that such neer (water) taken from lingam can itself beneficial for life hazard diseases. Chandrakanta mani was established by Ravana (King of Lanka) in Treta yug which he got from his elder brother Kuber from swarglok (Heaven) to pour Jal (water) continuously on Jyotirlingam. This system of watering is in continnum till today and so makes it important. If u r a hindu then U can touch the lingam only with your right hand thumb and little finger. With such sparsh Puja method u will get energised severely, as I felt several times. Nowadays Annual Shravani Mela is going on and thousands of pilgrim persons (local domestic tourist as well as foreigners) are visiting the place daily). Jharkhand Govt has decided to highlight the place by arranging Viswa Baidyanath Diwas first time on forth coming weeks.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Local Cuisine - Milk made items. Sweets and Pedas etc. Sight-Seeing- 1. Naulakha temple complex(major attraction- Sphatika Shivalingam temple) 2. Karni bag Ashram 3. Tapovan 4. Rikhia Dham ( a famouse spiritual guru Swami Satyananda's Ashram) 6. Trikut Hill (height 2800 feet) evergreen mountain full of herbal vegetation a picnic cum excursion point, it contains some rare species of apes and birds and snakes. Very soon Rope way facility will be available to the top of the mountain. Mayurakshi River begins from this hill top which forms Masanjor Dam(Picnic Spot). 7. Nandan pahar (children Amusement Park, Shilpgram, Planatorium etc)
Activities & things to do: Nandan Pahar children Amusement parks where u can enjoy with your family and children. This hill is also a sunset point. U can watch the town from here. On makar sankranti 14 th January every year Kite festival is organised at the hill top.
