History of Erode
Erode is one of the towns of Tamil Nadu, which is flanked by the Cauvery River. The town is located in the northern region of Tamil Nadu, as a headquarters of Erode District, which is spread over an area of 8,162 square kilometres.The word Erode originated from Tamil "Eru Odai", meaning two streams. Two water courses namely, Perumpallam in Surampatti and Kalingarayan Canal in Brahmana Periya Agraharam and Kasipalayam exist in the neighbouring villages. However, there are no streams in the original township.
