About Gorai Tourism
Gorai is a popular beach resort situated in the north-western part of the state of Maharashtra. Lying on the peninsula protruding off the north-west of the Salsette Island, the destination is bordered by the villages of Manori and Uttan of Dharavi Island. Gorai is situated along the Arabian Sea and is in close proximity to Mumbai.

The destination has numerous churches that are testimony of the rule of Portuguese during 16th century. Among the three main churches, oldest is the Reis Magos, also known as Three Magi, which is situated close to Vairalla Tank.

Other churches in the town are The New Parish Church, also known as Three Magi Church, and The Infant Jesus Chapel. The New Parish Church was built in 1810, whereas Infant Jesus Chapel is a newly built church close to the ruins of an old church.

One of the major attractions of the beach village is the traditional bullock carts. The destination is popular for its beaches namely, Marve Beach and Gorai Creek. The beach village is surrounded by villas with several fishing hamlets.

Situated close to the financial capital of India, Mumbai, Gorai can be reached by flights, trains and buses. The nearest airport to the destination is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport that is connected with various parts of the country and world. Travellers can also board trains to Borivali Railway Station, which is the nearest station to Gorai. Buses from Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra are available to reach the destination.

The tropical monsoon type climate with mild and low temperature during winters is the ideal time to visit Gorai.

5 Gorai Traveller Reviews

"Family Beach" new review

Gorai Experience: Good, safe, clean and the authorities take a regular round to see that there are no mischief mongers and at sunset every one is shooed off. Children have swell good time playing on the shore or bathing in the sea.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The Sea is itsel the biggest attraction as it is safe, but you can visit churches nearby, and then there is Esselworld, Waterkingdom and The Global Pagoda.
Activities & things to do: Swimming, sandcastle building and much more.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Keep Towels handy as the hotels may have damp ones. Travelling from borivali is an experience. Take a road route to Gorai Creek fom borivali / kandivali station, take the local ferry across and drive to beach in a rickshaw or tonga. if you are going for day trip be sure to return early in evening as ferry and buss services fro Bhayander station stop.

"Less bad amongs the worst" new review

Gorai Experience: Gorai is about 40 Km from thane. Its a nice beach but dont venture too much inside as slope is quiet steep. Its only beach where you can drive, i think. The best part is a drive on uttan road. Its a single lane but dotted by trees. Gorai is a virgin beach and most of the aminities are not available. It's better to book resort on phone in advance as only 4 hotels are available here.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Dont miss early morning sun rise.
Activities & things to do: Gorai beach dont have any activities. The best thing u can do here ' do nothing'. Just relax on your hammock and enjoy your beer.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: A lane going towards beach from uttan road is very narrow. if you are driving, be careful. Tank your vehicle sufficiently. Nearest fuel station is at least 20 Km away. Do swim but dont venture too much inside. Sea is deep here. and i haven't seen any life guards anywhere.

"Great lab picnic"

Gorai Experience: Great family and group picnic spot. Though some what isolated from main Mumbai city, still good connection to reach there. Beach gives the feel of Goa in the sense that it has far lesser crowd as compared to other beaches in Mumbai (Juhu, Aksa, Girgaon). There are many resorts (though budget) right on beach.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is mainly limited to resort only. Not much option for restaurants.
Activities & things to do: Swimming, leisure
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Reach Gorai creek, take stimmer/boat to cross the creek in about 5 minutes. Then take auto or tanga to reach the beach.

"Gorai - Mini Goa near Mumbai"

Gorai Experience: Hoping to catch a glimpse of Goa very near to Mumbai? Then Gorai is your destination. An island village near northern Mumbai offers beautiful views of rustic countryside. Must visit if you want to travel the least and enjoy the most !
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food: The island has to offer many different types of cuisines to suit many tastes but freshly served sea-food tops my list . Sight-seeing: Churches, Beaches and amusement parks make an exciting trio ! The major places worth seeing can be: 1) Gorai Beach : Undoubtedly must visit for its appealing views of sunset. 2) Churches: There are three beautiful churches on the island which boasts of substantial Christain population which give the land a feel of Goa. 3) Amusement parks: The theme parks of Water Kingdom and Essel world are must see if you are an adventure buff. 4)Global Vipassana Pagoda : A huge golden dome like structure which makes its wonderful presence felt throughout the region is worth visiting to be feel amazed about its architectural magnificence ! Shopping: You can save a lot in this domain as nothing much significant is available.
Activities & things to do: Horse-cart ride is really enjoyable in the interiors of village. Kids and adventure enthusiasts can hit the famous amusement parks in vicinity. Apart from that, the Gorai beach and near-by region is best for enjoying a laid back life. If time permits nearby places like Madh-Marve, Manori can be visited in couple of days.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: 1)By Public transport: Well connected to Mumbai suburb's Borivali station west with regular buses to Gorai Bus terminal.BEST Bus #294 takes you directly to Gorai jetty which otherwise is a short walk from Gorai bus depot. 2)By Own vehicle : The roadway route to Gorai exists....but its a long drive through diversion at NH8 via Bhayander-Uttan-Gorai..about 45 minutes. TRAVEL WARNINGS: Swimming should be avoided at some of the unsafe beaches in the vicinity. Need to negotiate rates for carts and rickshaws beforehand on island unless you want to be taken on a joy-ride ;) !
