"A beautiful treat for the eyes!"

Hogenakkal Experience: The trip begins with a lovely ride on the coracle on the fast moving river. But nothing prepares one for the breath taking view to come ahead. Guided by the boatman to the spot brings one to the much awaited visual- water flowing & falling in full force between the rocks to a deafening sound & cold mist rising out.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: A lot of fried fish for fish lovers awaits here. One can also see how the locals manage to catch fish in the fast moving waters. The small restaurants surrounding the falls provide some simple yet tasty food.
Activities & things to do: The adventurous ones can opt for a oil massage by many masseurs roaming around with oil bottles. A good bath under the waterfalls would help drive away any residual stress left. As for others, especially those travelling with kids, these are some spots where in one can splash around in the flowing water.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Carry extra clothes & good footwear, for the path can be a little slippery.

"Hogenakkal water falls & massages"

Hogenakkal Experience: This place is a dark horse indeed. It has magnificent water falls, nice boating experience in traditional boats, good oil massages. The bathing experience under the waterfall is itself mind blowing. It is like nature is doing body massage for as long as you want. Amazing experience. good part it does not cost you a rupee to take bath under waterfall. People are friendly and almost innocent, so no worry of touts and cheats.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Cheap, south indian food. no need to run around.... all places you can see are at one spot. so, you can enjoy a relaxing weekend.
Activities & things to do: Oil Massages bathing under waterfall boating eat street food
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Better take your car... bus service is not frequent.

"Eastern Nayagra - Hogenakkal!"

Hogenakkal Experience: If you like perfect day-out with the beauty of nature, then its best place to visit before the monsoon starts!
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There are people who can cook the traditional Tamilnadu fish curry and fry for you for nominal cost. Just, you have to buy fish by your own and have to negotiate the amount with the women who will cook for you. Its worth to pay 100 INR per person. I am sure you will like it 100%. Special end for your meal will be the Rasam' which will be really amazing.
Activities & things to do: Ride (slow) on a special boat called Parisal and the massage by professional masseur will be the highlight.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Its 110 Km from Salem if you go from Chennai and its better to arrange a private vehicle. If your budget is low, then you can get govt/private buses through Dharmapuri.

"Not Meant for a Family Outing!"

Hogenakkal Experience: Though the falls are very beautiful , its not a place to be recommended for a Family outing. The place is usually crowded and you will invariably find a lot of lumpen elements who think that ladies are an easy target for eve- teasing . The police makes its presence felt by being absent. This an experience shared by me and a lot of my friends.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Pack your own food for the trip if you are finicky about cleanliness and hygiene. For the the other more adventurous there many shacks which serve decent fish items.
Activities & things to do: Boating.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Do not go with family or any female companions. You'll usually find a lot of lumpen elements roaming in wolf packs who find women to be an easy target for eve- teasing.

"Niagara of India"

Hogenakkal Experience: Hogenekkal- The Niagara of India The recent trailer of a movie reminded me of our trip to Hogenekkal waterfalls, where the river Cauvery comes down in a gorge in a beautiful array of waterfalls. These waterfalls always find their way into movies due to their exotic location. The hills surrounding this gorge create a scenic location very exciting and adventurous.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Hoganekkal is the fish center. You will find fish everywhere.
Activities & things to do: Coracle ride, swimming, filling up your tummy with fresh fish.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Easy destination could be reached via road or rail

"Too sunny in May"

Hogenakkal Experience: Have been to Hogenakkal falls last week (May 6th 2011) along with kids. Had a very bad experience due to the crowd and lack of cleanliness in the surroundings. Need to ban plastic near the water. People are throwing plastic bottles and plastic bags in water. The entry fee should be hiked and the same should be used to maintain the surroundings. If maintained in a proper way, the place is a very good sight-seeing spot. The near by park is full of used plates and left over food items. Need to maintain the park too.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The locals are ready to prepare the food for a small cost. Fish curry and fish fry are the best items you can find, if you love fish. Nothing much to shop here. Plan it in either spring of winter to enjoy the nature\'s grandeur.
Activities & things to do: You would get a body massage and if you still like the muddy green color water, you can have a dip. Also you can enjoy bathing under the water falls which makes the water even more dirtier.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Use private travel if you want to enjoy the trip. Do not visit this place in summer. Beware of monkeys, they might grab the food packets from your hands.

"The drunkers paradise"

Hogenakkal Experience: Excellent waterfalls, water... water... and more water... If you like water, its worth to visit, but there is no proper food, accomodation and every where you see only bunch and bunch of drunkers. If you combine with a girl or group of girls, you can't even enjoy the water, the people around you makes worst comments, even people who takes it light seems to not back to the site again in their life time.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food is the main problem who are veg. You can eat variety of fishes, but it's not hygenically prepared, so to be careful to avoid any food and take some bottle drinks, branded packed snacks etc.
Activities & things to do: Excellent when you ride on 'Parisal'. Its awesome be there with your loved ones. Excellent climatic conditions, awesome scenaries everthing you see is photoperfect.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Tamilnadu reach Dharmapuri and travel around 1 hr to reach Hogenakkal.

"Hogenakkal - Save it before its too late!!"

Hogenakkal Experience: Hogenakkal is a mesmerizing village where the 'Jeevanadhi' Cauvery falls from a height of about 20mtrs at various points, creating a bunch of falls and a visual treat. This was my second trip to this beautiful locale in a gap of 10 months and found it more better than the last one! Pictureseque stretch of roads, scenig hills and serene cauvery all adding to the beauty. Anything and everything about this small but very famous tourist place is told and told again. But I feel sad to write the present condition of this place, which sems to be detoriating every passing day. The maddening crowd, irresponsible administration and not-so-aware villagers are least bothered about the place being endangered. The cause is Pollution and pollution. The waterfall which once basked in its glory now is filled with plastic waste and stagnant dirt. One can see people performing last rituals (pinda) right beside the bathing place. Another washing clothes just beside that. Floating shops in parisals are a major attraction but nobody bothers to collect the plastic waste thrown into the river because of these shops. Hogenakkal claims of plastic free environment but its a biggest sarcasm! This place is full of plastic and waste. Hogenakkal....... where are you heading to???? The government collects about 30 rs from each vehicle for entrance and parking but seems to do least about the cleanliness here. If this continues then Hogenakkal's pride and glory may one day become history. Wake up before that....
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Find this guy, Suresh (9943305874). He is a parisal(boat) rider. A nice chap who seems to know quite well about this place. Ask him for boat trip from the island 8km away+falls ride and settle for an amount(we ended up paying 2000). Pls carry food from the town as there r no shops here) We parcelled food from the Hotel opposite to parking lot and beside bar (sorry dont remember the name). It was awesome. The island is far from all pollution and crowd and a nice place to rest yourself in water. This guy can wait for you as long as u wish and even tell u bout the places within river wic are dangerous. After the water play, u can take boat ride for 8kms (2.5hrs) on a scenic valley and he wil take u on a ride even under the falls.(falls ride closed after 5pm, so make sure u plan accordingly).
Activities & things to do: Play in river (making sure of the dangerous places), 8KM rafting (dont sleep off :) ), falls view from boat (pls dont get down water here, its dirty), Eat fish on the sand bed. and please please make sure you dont litter.. Save Hogenakkal for future.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Bangalore, hit Hosur road, af Hosur Junction (just after flyover), take right (Rayakottai road). Go to Rayakottai and then to Palacode. The stretch here is simply amazing even the roads are too good. Free from traffic and scenic. After Palacode, take right at Nagadasinampatti (Ample of hoardings are seen along the road). Move ahead to Pennagram to Hogenakkal. It is exactly 152km from BTM layout in Blore :) and shouldnot take more than 4hrs easy drive. Please make sure u carry cash as there are no ATMs in Hogenakkal.

Activities & things to do: Nothing much to speak of.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: If you are in Bangalore, take a train to Dharmapuri and from there board a bus. It takes about 1 hour from Dharmapuri.
