"Highest falls in India"

Jog Falls Experience: Good location. Surroundings well maintained. The Falls by themselves were not very thrilling as the water quantity was not adequate even after the good rainfall received in the area.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Only small stalls available. Had to travel to Sagar for lunch.
Activities & things to do: Nothing much. You can travel to the source of one of the falls with the company of a guide.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Recommend to have your own transportation. Road conditions OK, can travel at about 40kmph, as traffic is minimal.

"Edifies your mind towards a better world"

Jog Falls Experience: The falls when seen from the top might seem small. Only when you focus hard and look down the valley, you can make out little human figures bathing. The height of the waterfall is appalling approximately equivalent to a 25 story building(don't have the exact figure) Reaching Joga(as it is called there) is the simplest part, I must say. Only then the actual thing starts-1400 steps into the valley. Believe me that's pretty hard. Once you get down into the valley, the view is superb panorama of mountains, sun and light blue sky. The falls then appear mightier and humungous. There are a lot of rocks down there and you’ll have to trek to get just under the fall which is around 50metres from where the place you get down at. Bathing in the falls is definitely going to wash away all your bad 'karma' unlike Ganga(rather better than Ganga). The best part is a little pool of water which gets collected at the bottom of the falls. One can swim and enjoy the immense beauty of the falls. It’s awe inspiring and you feel like back floating forever. After all the rejuvenation comes the worst part ie. climbing back. Each step leaves you panting for breath. We were completely dehydrated and exhausted by the time we reached the top. I would recommend a little amount of rest in the valley so that climbing doesn’t turn into a horrid nightmare.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: You don’t get a variety of food here; however you get a few South Indian delicacies. Small shops which abound the area serve maggi and bread omlette at reasonable prices. There is no hotel nearby so inadvertently you’re on your own. As there are no shops in the valley it would be wise to carry a water bottle and some food before getting down. A torch might come in handy when descending at night which is not advisable.
Activities & things to do: Trekking..a lot of it!!
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: If you are making a road trip to Jog Falls, you should try to reach there with enough fuel to drive an extra 15kms as there is no petrol pump in the vicinity. To refuel your vehicle you’ll have to drive down 15kms towards Bangaluru. So stay mindful of that! Best season to visit Joga is monsoon. One can give a miss to Joga in summers on the account of scorching heat. Nearest railway station as I vaguely remember is Karawali. One can a make a road trip to Joga from Bangaluru which is around 200kms. Roads are in good condition at most of the places and the beauty is scenic throughout.

"Jog Falls - A wonderful Place"

Jog Falls Experience: Nature is supreme. This is what I can feel. I went at the wrong time, as the monsoon has not done its magic, so the falls were not in their full splendor. The height of the cliff made me imagine how wonderful the falls would be if the rains had not failed.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Close by there are no good facilities. Govt. of Karnataka has very bad living facilities, that look like the cellular jail in Port Blair. The closest place to stay is a home stay, 8 Kms away called Stay at Mathunga. Which is a wonderful place. Forest Dept has a camping site that's very basic. A youth hostel is also available.
Activities & things to do: Walk around, climb right down to the bottom of the falls. Try some trekking. Please take a local guide. Watch small mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Bangalore take NH 4, just before Tumkur, take the left fork towards Shimoga and hit the road, all the way till you reach Jog . About 250 Kms, takes 8 to 9 hrs. No good facilities to eat. No toilet facilities. Shimoga has some places, check their reputation on the web before going there. Before Tumkur there is a Cafe Coffee day on the left. Other than this I did not see any decent place. Ladies and women will have a lot of problems to find decent toilet facilities. In case its a desperate situation, there is a BP bunk just after Shimoga which has sort of clean toilets, that are kept locked, so it may be a last ditch place. The roads are narrow so be careful specially if you are driving a wide car like Innova. Still, its worth it. If you are heading to South Goa via Karwar, you can do Jog, stay over night at Stay at Mathunga, and then continue onwards the next day.
