About Kabini Tourism
Kabini is a popular wildlife destination in the state of Karnataka of southern India. The forest reserve forms the south-eastern part of Nagarhole National Park and is situated on the banks of the Kabini River. Kabini is located at a distance of about 80 km from Mysore and 208 km from Bangalore, on the Mysore-Manathavady Road.

History of Kabini

The Kabini Forest Reserve derived its name from the River Kabini, a tributary of River Cauvery, which flows through Nagarhole. This forest area was once the private hunting lodge for the Maharajas of Mysore. Later it became a popular hunting destination for the British Viceroys and the Indian royals as well.

In the year 1974, the Kabini Dam and a huge reservoir were built as a part of an irrigation project. As a result, a huge lake was formed and it submerged the village of Mastigudi. The Dam at Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the Beechanahalli village across the river Kabini bifurcate Nagarhole and Bandipur National Parks.

The lake formed in Kabini was named as Mastigudi Lake and it is a major tourist attraction. The Mastigudi Lake covers an area of about 60 sq km. When the reservoir at Kabini gets drained out in the summer season, the Mastigudi Temple of the submerged village becomes visible.

"One day Stay at WaterWoods" new review

Kabini Experience: Kabini is located on the backwaters and a wonderful place to relax and spend quality time with family. A boat ride in the backwaters is a very good experience. A ride into the jungle will be lucky if you could spot wild animals.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Elephant training camp, safari ride and the old temple in the island from the resort.
Activities & things to do: Karoke, Boat ride, bike ride on the bank sand obviously relax on the river bank and enjoy sunset.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Bangalore: towards Mysore, take the right turn just before entering Mysore towards Hunsur and take the ring road towards Hunsur. Follow the Sign boards towards Kabini. Warning: The last 15 kms is pathetic and horrible with more potholes than road. It took nearly 50 mins to cover this stretch.

"Nature at its Best"

Kabini Experience: Two glorious days right in the middle of a wild nature. Unspoilt by Providers, unpolluted by Tourists and very well maintained by the local community and caretakers. A fantastic destination for a short 2 day getaway where you can forget the worries of the city, and RELAX in the midst of a green retreat. The jungle, a real wild river and a nice and varied population of wildlife - you cannot ask for more at some great prices if you can plan ahead and plan well.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: No Shopping - no planning. Just leave the resort to plan your day and flow with their plans. Feast your eyes to all the flora and fauna of the forest. s for food, just the ambiance of the Restaurant of the Kabini Wildlife resort nestled by the river works up a good appetite. The food and the service did not give any reason to complain and was very deserving of the fine resort that it is.
Activities & things to do: Relax, Relax and Relax.... That is what you want to do at Kabini Wildlife Resort. You do not go there to actually do things. Of course you do have to get into the vans and go wild life sighting or boating but do not consider that as an activity....The resort has put up Rope nets and tree houses to keep the kids busy in case they are not interested in putting their feet up and relaxing and it was fun for adults too actually...
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: 5 Hours from Bangalore by an AC Car was really not that uncomfortable and you can add a stop over and see the sights in Mysore (the Palace and the gardens at least if the time is less) on the return trip... Start at dawn or earlier on a week end and you actually do not need to take more than a day off from work and still enjoy a great relaxing holiday...
