"Visit to WAYANAD's heavenly abode at Kalpetta"

Kalpetta Experience: Kalpetta is in WAYANAD district of Kerala state in India. It is situated at a height of 700-2100 metre above sea level. WAYANAD presents a panoramic view of undulating mist clad hills wrapped with lush green tea and cofee plantations . The spices like cardamom, pepper, rubber are grown all over the hilly tracks and is feast of eyes. It is home to ancient ruins, mysterious mountain caves, tree houses, jungle trails, beautiful falls and exotic wild life.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Less frequented by the crowd of tourist because of its distance from the mainland, the queen of hills unfold it's beauty to discerning tourist. The way to Suchipara falls and then the falls itself are soothing to eyes as well as mind.Banasura dam (largest earthen dam in India), Kanthan para falls, pookot Lake, sunrise valley, top point, view points and wayanad wild life sanctuary are the main attractions of nature's beauty. It is really God's own country.
Activities & things to do: trecking, hiking, and exploring nature's beauty are the main things to do. A visit to Muthanga wild life sanctuary for seeing wild elephants and tiger besides other animals like dear, monkey and various birds is a must.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: One can enter from Bangalore - Mysore national Highway . Bangalore to Mysore road distance is 120 km. From Mysore 60 ams drive will take you to Gundalpet. Another 55km drive will take one to Sultan Bathery. Further drive for 24 km will bring one to Kalpetta. If one visits from Kozhikode (calicut) side, then 64 km drive will bring him to Chundale via Vythiri and then to Kalpetta. It can also be accessed from Coimbatore- ooty, Gudalur, Sultan Bathery side . If one travels from Mysore side then he should cross the stretch of NH 212 in the forest to enter Kerala before dusk so as not to disturb the movement of animals accross the road. One should not park vehicle after 5pm on NH212 from Mysore to Muthanga(Kerala).

"God's Own country- Wonderful experience"

Kalpetta Experience: It was pleasant destination to stay in people who loves to travel in rainy season can do it in July -december which is main season for rains over there.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We had a good lunch at Arya Bhavan hotel where we had south Indian dishes at very minimal rates. Breakfast & dinner was served to us in the Home stay itself so we need not to travel outside the place where we stay.
Activities & things to do: Take good winter clothes whether you are travelling in rainy season. Try ayurveda massage which is very minimal rates they have some good package for having whole body massage.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Catch a train from Chennai to Kochikode from that take from road ways which will be easy. While returning take a bus from Kalpatta & you will reach to mysore from that you can catch shatabthi express full AC with snacks provided at the train itself. Enjoy

"The mountain country"

Kalpetta Experience: In the lap of the Western Ghats lies the hill town of Kalpetta. The November chill was so welcoming and our hotel tucked away a little inside from the main road made the setting all the more natural. Coffee plants dotted the backyards of most households. Small birds found their berries a treat and other flowering plants all added to the charm of this mountain country .
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: A half hour jaunt from the town saw us wandering in the tea gardens, and a short trek took us to the Soochipara water falls. back from the trek we felt so refreshed , not tired at all thanks to the salubrious weather. There was a light drizzle to add to the Kerala feel. Bird watching on the way and hitching a bus ride was fun. Nestled in the forest range was the Pukote lake, a place to enjoy the laid back calm waters .
Activities & things to do: Trekking along the mountain slopes is an enjoyable activity. Bird watching and if you are a water enthusiast there's river rafting too. Wild life sanctuary at Muthanga is a key attraction, but sighting Elephants or the Tiger is a matter of luck. One could meet with the tribals in this area and learn a bit of their culture.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Accessible by road from Calicut or Mysore from the western side. It's a 3 hr drive from Mysore through the Bandipur Santuary. Avoid night travel on the highway because of winding roads that are scarry in the dark with the thick vegetation cutting your sight short.

"It's really Gods Own Country - lush green & nature"

Kalpetta Experience: It's a long weekend gateway for Bangaloreans. Enjoy the nature, breath the fresh air which is not possible in Bangalore.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: As the food was awesome at Sundara Mahal we did not try outside food much. But wanted to try Non-Veg food at Vythri Village, ended up with good Veg variety Non-Veg option was very less in their Buffet Lunch. Continous rain has spoiled some of our major sightseeing trips like Edakal caves, Tholpetty wildlife sanctury, water falls etc. But enjoyed at Banasura Sagar Dam & Pooket lake. Best lake so far I have seen, really clean. Bangalore is the best place for shopping. But yes we shopped Wayanad local spices and got 'Dates Pickle'. First time tried Dates Pickle at Sundara Mahal.
Activities & things to do: Due to continuous rain we did not do much activity. Yes there are lot of places to be explored.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Its a decent drive through forest. area. Take care while driving... Drive down from Bangalore - Mysore - Gundulpet - Kalpeta. Road condition is good except some potholes.

"KALPETTA - unforgettable experience."

Kalpetta Experience: As the summer vacation started , we are searching for get away places. We found one on KALPETTA , WAYANAD.( gods own destination From HYD , We reached BANGALORE on 13TH MAY 2010 evening by our lovely Logan stayed in Bangalore for 3days. My wife has done some shopping in commercial street and chickpet ( she always do when ever we are in Bangalore ) on 15th may we want to near by falls in Bangalore On 16th may , we prepared our selves for Wayanad. journey. We started in Bangalore around 7 .00 am in morning on 17th may towards Mysore. We reached Mysore by 10.30 am, As i had some work in mysore with one of our customers. ( as i always mix business with holiday trip ). By 1.30 pm i finished work with my customer and we had lunch at one of the restaurants in in Mysore . I visited the famous nombay tiffannys and bought some to eat in the journey. We started at around 2.30 pm towards Kalpetta ( wayanad ) which is around 142 km from mysore. We reached kalpetta. We have received the calls from our our host ( planet green resorts ) about our journey ( where we are like ) we liked the the way they have shown lot enthusiasm before our arrival thier resort. We reached gundlupet ( junction ) and had coffee at cafe coffeday. and proceeded towards Bandipura forest > unfortunately we could not see any elephants . But it was cool and fresh air through out the drive through forest. we reached kalpetta by 5.15pm we enquiries here and there , and finally the resort employee came and accompanied us to the resort. which is just 3kms from Kalpetta town It is Planet green resorts. which is amazingly built on cliff of the hills. Down to our room having a slope of 60 degree. coffee plantation. Lot of trees . chirping of birds . calm and seren atmosphere. This is the best place for stress buster . They have very limited accommodation. and very neatly maintained property
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: NO worries for food. they will ask your opinion before making food. veg and non veg food as per our liking. We are vegetarians, they cooked kerala food . kerala parota, pachchadi, thoran ( fry ) sambar curd i dont really recommend. sightseeing: all the well know placed withing 40 km range from the resort.
Activities & things to do: we stayed in wayanad for 3days / 2nights. best thing you can do in wayanad doing nothing. enjoy the nature, birds, hills, streams , waterfalls. after after our arrival on 17th may eveining. we had snacks prepared ( pakoda )and tea and after that we had dinner at 8.30pm . and all of us slept by 9.30pm . On 18th may , I got up early at 5.00am and sat in the balcony of the room and enjoyed the nature ( cloud covered mountans, birtds chirping) Can you believe this i spent two hours in the balcony ( just sitting silently ) after breakfast we went down the hills with children , there is a stream flowing through the coffee estate. My children enjoyed in the stream ( natiral stream from hills ) . they took bath and enjoyed a lot in the water. shopping in kalpetta : there is one saree shop : SINDUR (My wife bought Kerala saries ), i bought dhoties. we came back and had tea and snacks. we planned a walk through coffee plantation. and climbing of the hill opposite to our resort. it was around 2.5kms walking thorough ups and downs of the tea estate . from this hill we had very good pictures of gigantic CHAMBRA PEAK highest hill in wayanad. We walked back to the resort. night we had dinner and slept as usual at 9.30pm . the next day after break fast we checked out and proceeded to our destination.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From BANGALORE to KALPETTA. Early start is better 6.30 TO 7.00AM ( to avoid traffic of bangalore) after 40 kms you will find restarant KADUMANE . You can have break fast here . and you can proceed to Mysore. ( BAN-MYSORE 145 KM ) BY 11.00 AM You can go around Mysore have a look at CHAMUNDI BETTA, KRS DAM . You can have lunch in an of the hotels on palace road. You cannot find hotels that easily in Mysore. As most of the hotels are on palace road. You can leave Mysore by 2pm, it takes 3 hours to reach WAYANAD ; 145 KMS. Always keep mineral water bottles/ fruits/ juices with you ( 3 to 4 minimum ) Once you leave mysore, you don't get anything to eat before wayanad. from Mysore You will NANJANGUD then GUNDLUPET from here you have to take a right . ( ROAD shows towards KOZHIKODE( CALICUT) from Gundlupet - KALPET AROUNG 80 KMS You can see BANDIPURA FOREST MUTHANGA WLID LIFE SANCTUARY then town of SULTAN BATTERY before reaching KALPETTA.
