Kevadia-Narmada Info

  • State: Gujarat
  • Famous for/as: Waterfront
  • District: Narmada
Kevadia-Narmada is a town situated in Narmada District, in the state of Gujarat. This town is surrounded by thick forests and hills on all sides; several small streams, rivulets, view points and watering holes are also located here. The town is located downstream from the Narmada Dam.

Since colonisation, this town has been ruled by many kings, such as King Vikram, King Nandrai, King Jachand and his nephew Samarsignhji. It was invaded twice by Sultan Ahmed, who was killed by King Harsinghji during the second attempt.

This town reflects Gujarati tradition to its core, with dhotis and sarees being the main attire of locals. Navratri is celebrated on a large scale and people take part in the Garba and Dandia enthusiastically. Traditional Gujarati cuisine, which includes items like dhokla, khichdi, khandvi and khaman, is also available here.

The Government is heavily promoting tourism in Kevadia-Narmada due to its scenic location and wild life and plant species. The area also serves as a spot for leisure and recreational activities such as mountaineering, surfing and boating. Hotels, water parks and golf courses are being developed in this area to meet the demands of tourists.

Some notable tourist spots located in Kevadia-Narmada are Nehru Foundation Stone Sthal, Narmada Dam River View Point and Aditheswar Mahadev Temple, which is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Mahadev Temple, another Shiva temple located here, was submerged in water and has been reconstructed now. Panchmilli Lake, Kalvani Lake and Vagdam Lake are the lakes situated in the vicinity of this town.

Vadodara Airport or Civil Airport Harni is the closest airport and connects Kevadia-Narmada to major Indian cities. However, the international airport situated nearest to this town is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Bharuch Railway Station is the nearest train junction and visitors from cities like Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, etc. need to get off here. Kevadia-Narmada is well connected to nearby cities like Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Aurangabad and Junagadh via the local bus service.

The best time to visit Kevadia-Narmada is after monsoons and before winters, i.e. during the months of October and November.

"Nature at its best"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Sep 1, 2016
Visited on 25th Aug 2016.

Nature is at its best.

If you are coming from a long distance like Mumbai, previous night stay at Poicha-Swaminarayan mandir (one has to book the room three days in advance) or at Rajpipla.

Next morning reach Kavadia, have the whole day for visit to all the places.

Leave Kavadia before evening as hotel and food at Kavadia is not good.

"Narmada gives you Bliss on Both Banks"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Dec 5, 2015
Narmada in Gujarat is few hundred kms but packs a punch before it meets the Arabian sea, Gulf of Khambhat, Cambay. There are so many temples ashrams stay facilities with some shallow beaches which allows you safe bath. Chandod, Karnali, SwamiNarayan temple opp that and Anusuya Janakeshwar temples attract millions. Both banks have great picnic spots like Shuklateertha, Kabir Vad Nareshwar Malsar Vyas bet, island and many such spots till the great river merges with the sea. Today it supplies drinking water to half of Gujarat die to persistent efforts to complete Narmada project. Janakeshwar temple is only one of King Janak near the famous Anusuya devi, Mother of Lord Duttatreya temple. All within day trip from cultural capital Banyan city if, Vadodara. Come Holy town of Chandod Karnali adopted by none other than finance minister Arun Jaitley ji beckons you.

"Place to enjoy natural beauty of water"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Aug 6, 2014
Though the water flow was huge, I enjoyed a lot at Kevadiya Colony, Narmada, and Gujarat. Itís a place where you can enjoy natural beauty of water. Narmada is lifeline of Gujarat. On this Narmada River a dam named Sardar Sarovar Dam is build. It has a magnificent beauty during monsoon. The water of Narmada flows (overflows) from the long bridges of dam. It is such a wonderfully sight.
