Kota Info

  • State: Rajasthan
  • Famous for/as: Heritage
  • District: Kota
Kota is an important city in the state of Rajasthan and is known for its many industries and power plants. It is referred to as the industrial capital of the state. Asia’s largest fertiliser plant is in Kota. Its strategic location makes it an important trade centre between the neighbouring states of Delhi and Gujarat. The city is located on the banks of River Chambal making it a very fertile area ideal for cultivation of a variety of crops.

Being a city in Rajasthan, there are quite a few Rajput palaces and havelis in Kota, which highlight the Rajput style of architecture. The Jagmandir Palace, located in the centre of the Kishore Sagar Lake, is a beautiful artificial lake. The palace is a magnificent red sandstone monument and is a popular tourist site. The site can be reached via a boat ride across the lake. The Haveli of Devtaji is another popular tourist site and is home to some beautiful wall paintings.

There are quite a few places of worship in and around Kota, especially temples and gurudwaras. The Godavari Dham Temple is a famous Hanuman temple located on the banks of the Chambad River. Khare Ganesha Temple, Tirupati Balaji Temple and the Karneshwar Temple are other temples which are frequented by devotees. Agamgarh Saheb Gurudwara is a famous gurudwara in Kota.

Kota has two of the best museums – the Maharao Madho Singh Museum and the Government Museum. The Maharao Madho Singh Museum has a rare and extensive collection of Rajput paintings belonging to the Kota School of Arts, rare items of armoury and a range of sculptures. The Government Museum houses a collection of rare coins, old manuscripts and instances of Hadoti sculpture.

There are quite a few picnic spots in and around Kota which are ideal for day trips. The Chambal Garden on the banks of the Chambal River is one such spot. Kota is quite well known for its strong educational set-up and there are a number of engineering colleges and institutes here which has given it the tag of 'educational hub of Rajasthan'.

The weather in Kota is extreme with very hot summers. Winter is pleasant with moderate daytime temperatures and cool evenings and nights. The best time to visit Kota is the winter months of December to February.

"Must-visit attractions around Kota"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
I had been to Kota by road in the month of December 2016. Kota is a must-visit attraction in the tourism circuit of Rajasthan. The must-visit attractions around Kota are the Cambial Gardens, Gagron and the City Palace. The Cambial Gardens are located on the banks of the Cambial River at Amar Niwas. The biggest attraction here is the pond which is located in the middle of this natural wonder where one can easily spot crocodiles. An added attraction here is the availability of boating facilities. Gagron is located around 90 kilometers from Kota and is home to many Jain Temples. The main temple here is dedicated to Thirthankar Adinath and it has 29 halls and has supporting 1444 pillars. The subsidiary temples here are dedicated to Neminath and Parshvanath. The City Palace boasts of a combination of Maugham and Rajasthani architecture. The Palace is decorated with Wall Paintings, Mirror ceilings and hanging lights. The presence of Marble walls and floorings add to the beauty of the city palace. An added attraction here is the garden abutting the city palace. The museum is a must-visit here as it contains weaponry, handicrafts and attires worn by the kings and queens in their heydays.

I had stayed in Kota for 3 years during one of my job stints and this was just a catching up on old friends and acquaintances as well as showing the kids where we used to stay.
It was Diwali eve when we landed there and the amrkets were full of revellers and shoppers. Thoroughly enjoyed the Jodhpur waale ki Pyaj ki kachori and rawat ki Dal ki kachori.
Who can miss the Kota namkeen we got loads packed for our home.
Great place to be in during Dusherra festival

Kota is the biggest city of Hadouti region & 3rd largest metro of Rajsthan. Rapidly growing city due to Delhi-Mumbai corridor & having superb railway network on delhi-mumbai route. Now a days Kota is catching eyeballs for Bollywood too for shooting the films here & we will see "7 wonders Park" of Kota on big screen with Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Kota is also famous for Dashera Mela

Kota is a place which we can Call a Education Hub. There is nothing then a Coaching Institute and Students. Although some of the places like 7 Wonders and Chambal Garden are well managed and these places are for visiting. Lastly People are good enough to talk and lots of Commercialization due to education center.

I visited to Kota in Rajasthan. There I visited seven wonders of the world. These are small parts structure of real wonders. All seven are Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria and finally Taj mahal. The beauty of India. At night all seven wonders are lighted. They look like heaven & we did photography there. Then we moved to dinner and came back that's all we enjoyed a lot there. You must visit this place. Seven wonders in one place its more than we want.

A city with lovely food delicacies. Don't you miss the lovely Kachoris, Specially of the Ratan the oldest kachori shop of Kota. Places to visit are Chambal Garden, NTPC, Zoo, Museum, 7 wonder Garden. Transport is cheap, u can get auto, shared tempo, buses to travel. I recommended to visit in month of Diwali, for the exquisite fair that happens in month of Diwali.

"Kota, it was an unforgettable trip"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Dec 28, 2015
Went to Kota for see the fort and temples and the fort in Bundi near Kota. The Kota fort is supposed to be haunted but I didn't feel it as it was not fully open. The Bundi fort is lovely and the people of Bundi speak hadoti (local language) and Hindi, some people were able to answer in English as well. The trip lasted three days and then I went to Jaipur to visit its forts and I temples.
