Mandarmani Info

  • State: West Bengal
  • Famous for/as: Beach
A beach resort, Mandarmani, is located in south-west Bengal in India. Situated in the East Midnapore district, the destination is a fast developing seaside resort village. Situated at a distance of 14 km from Chaulkhola and near the popular tourist destinations of Digha and Shankarpur, the destination is fast becoming one of the most developed tourist attractions of West Bengal.

Things to do in Mandarmani

This small town is known for its sea beach along with activities like surfing, ATV rides, jet skiing, banana boat rides etc. The most famous attraction of Mandarmani is the 13 km long motorable Mandarmani Beach. Prior to setting out for a drive on the beach, it is better to find out the timings of high tides as water levels might rise up to the beach level.

The place is also known for its beautiful sunrise and sunset views that can be best enjoyed along the beach. At a distance of 5-6 km from the main beach is The Delta which is ideal for taking a stroll. However, the area is best avoided after dark. Numerous red crabs can be seen on this stretch of the beach.

Food & Shopping in Mandarmani

Since Mandarmani is a beach destination, it is a good place to try some fish and other seafood. Fresh fish and crabs can be bought from the local fishermen. Most resorts serve local Bengali cuisine. Prawns and crabs are the specialties of the region. Apart from the resorts, food is also available at small eateries and shacks on the beach. These mostly sell tea and snacks but food is also available provided orders are placed beforehand. But the price of food available in Mandarmani is on the higher side. For shoppers, there are objects made of different types of sea shells and oysters. These range from jewellery items like necklaces and earrings to decorative objects like wall hangings and mirrors.

Travelling to Mandarmani

Mandarmani is at a distance of over 160 km from Kolkata. Buses are available from Esplanade and Howrah to reach Mandarmani. Buses going to Digha need to be boarded with the stoppage being at Chaulkhola, after Contai. The 14 km from Chaulkhola to Mandarmani can be covered by car, cycle rickshaw or auto rickshaw.  State Transport buses cost INR 76 while deluxe coaches cost around INR 100-110. Volvos depart from Gariahat, in South Kolkata, in the morning. It takes about three hours to cover the distance. Cars can also be hired from Kolkata to Mandarmani and they cost around INR 12-INR 60 per kilometre depending upon the type of car. The nearest rail station to Mandarmani is at Contai, about 17 km away and the nearest airport is at Kolkata.

Travelling within Mandarmani

The best way to explore Mandarmani is either by foot or by hiring a bike or bicycle. Considering tourists visit the destination for its beaches, there is not much of travelling expected.

Accommodation options in Mandarmani

Hotel options in Mandarmani range for budget hotels to high-end resorts. The town also has a few options for the green traveller. Tourists are advised to book a sea facing hotel as it will provide spectacular views of the sunrise or sunset, which the town is famous for. Tourists can also book one of the many attractive holiday packages in Mandarmani to enjoy a perfect beach vacation.

Monsoon season in the region commences in the month of June and extends till the month of September, while the winter season stretches from December to February. However, it can be crowded in winter with people from nearby places flocking there for a weekend getaway. The best time to visit Mandarmani is the intermediary months between the monsoon and winter seasons.

"Peaceful beach of Westbengal" new review

  • 6/7
  • Posted 1 week ago
Less crowded, A bit expensive, but you can enjoy the beach than any other beach of WEST BENGAL. In monsoon you can enjoy the bath with rain if you are lucky, which is thousand dollar experience, even at night you can also enjoy your drinks at hotel garden premises or hotel's personal beach.

"One of the beast beach destinations in Bengal." new review

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
The wide beach, the serene atmosphere and the sunset at Mandarmani attracts tourist all round the year. Winter is the best time to visit Mandarmani, but you can come here anytime of the year. The seabeach, the delta and nearby Digha and Shankarpur beach can be visited from here. There are a wide array of hotels on the beach itself. The Debraj resort is quite comfortable and cozy. Drive on the beach, simple walks on the beach or just watching the sunset is enough for a wonderful holiday here. Try to avoid the festival and the rainy seasons if you are coming to Mandarmani as during these times, the atmosphere remains claustrophobic.

Lovely, wonderful experience with fun music family, enjoyed in beach, have good rides, in beach. Food was good. There is one temple, which very beautiful and peaceful. We went for boating in deep beach with waves ups and downs, it was wonderful. Its so close down to Kolkata that it's very easy to travel there, and enjoy a day or two.

"Best place to spend weekend"

  • 6/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
It is a best place to spend weekend with friends and family. The best thing is that we can take our car on the beach. There were many sea rides available. Hotels are also very nice. Should prefer hotels near Sun City Resort as sea is fully crowded. Food was little bit costly due to unavailable of food items nearby. A/C in rooms is not necessary as the place is full of air, whole day if the room is sea faced. If room is not directly sea faced then we should go for A/C rooms. You can enjoy lot if you go with personal / booked cars.

"Lot like Digha and Puri minus the pollution and crowd"

  • 6/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
I love to travel. But unfortunately busy schedule leaves me with only 2 to 3 trips per year. Had a great "small trip" to Mandarmani last month for 3 days. Lot like Digha and Puri minus the pollution and crowd. People from west Bengal would know better :) went with family. You wont like to stay over there for more than 3 days. It's basically a beach but does not have the volume of water that Digha or Puri has :) it is well known for its fish delicacies and the beautiful sun at dawn and dusk *_* first day was spent mostly indoors with chicken preparations and chess :D

Next day early morning we left hotel at 4 am to see the rising sun and the red crabs. Hundreds of crabs was what I expected. Saw only a few :( we were staying at a hotel near the beach so it was basically walking distance. There are many attractions like paragliding etc, but bit too expensive. Of Course once is cool :) that day was well spent with coconut drinks and photo sessions and we were back to Dum Dum Kolkata the very next day. To be honest it is a bit more costly than Digha and Puri in my personal opinion. But the ambience is good. Less sound. Less crowd. Better hotels. Home away from home. Specially good if you are short on time and looking for a short getaway :) mandarmani treated me well and here I am, treating it well at holidayiq.com. Hope this helps. Keep travelling and cheers :)

"Romantic beach outing"

  • 6/7
  • Posted May 13, 2015
It was a short and refreshing trip. Not much crowded in the off season. It is a nice clean beach. If you don't bother to drive, take the Duronto express from Howrah to reach New Digha from where you'll get a drive. A drive through the beach will take you to your beach resort. You can have some fun with the water sport activities, have a bath in the sea, do some shopping at the beach shops or else sit idly and enjoy the sea while having a taste of fresh seafood from the beachside cages. Take a van to reach the Delta to view the beautiful sunset. It's really awesome. A very nice destination to spend an extended weekend. Lastly I'll suggest you to go for Rose Valley resort, it's definitely the best. Had a great time there and will definitely suggest this place for a weekend fun.

"Excellent with lot of beach activities"

Virgin beach with lots of beach activities like biking, parachuting, etc. Just a fantastic place for a bindas holiday with your friends for a couple of days. We stayed in a good resort with a swimming pool and had loads of fun. You get to relax and have a carefree time to spend, enjoy small things and just come back full of energy and stress free.

"Relaxing weekend trip at a romantic beach"

  • 6/7
  • Posted May 11, 2015
If you arr planning a smart short beach trip off Kolkata, plan for this place. The beach is not overtly crowded and is nice and romantic. Most of the resorts are located on the beach. We stayed at the Rose Valley Resort which I think is the best. The water was calm. A few water sports like jet ski and beach parasailing were there. However, most of the people discouraged the parasailing as it was risky there. The small shops by the beach made very tasty sea foods like crabs and pomphrets. Small gift shops were also there. We took a van to go to the delta area where the sunset was truly stunning. The local people were friendly. Plan no more than 3-4 days and you'll love this place. We had a pleasant experience.

"Spend weekend with leisure and peace"

  • 5/7
  • Posted May 10, 2015
A weekend getaway from Kolkata for a good rest. Mandarmani also has beach activities. Had good driving my car on the beach. It was also fun watching lots of crabs together (which is nearby. ) I must say that we spent an awesome beach holiday there. It is a long beach with a nice view of the sea. Hotels and resorts are available of your choice and budget with many options. Local transportation is very less. If you are staying on the beach then own vehicle is a must.

"A nice place to spend a peaceful weekend here"

Mandermani is such a place where you can go any time in the year. Although Rainy season and winter is preferable, but if you want to spend some quality time in beach with all modern facilities - Mandermani is the best place. This may be one of those unique beach where you can drive. It is a great experience to drive a car in the beach where sea kisses the tyres of the car. It is a clean and amazing beach.
