Mandarmani Info

  • State: West Bengal
  • Famous for/as: Beach
A beach resort, Mandarmani, is located in south-west Bengal in India. Situated in the East Midnapore district, the destination is a fast developing seaside resort village. Situated at a distance of 14 km from Chaulkhola and near the popular tourist destinations of Digha and Shankarpur, the destination is fast becoming one of the most developed tourist attractions of West Bengal.

Things to do in Mandarmani

This small town is known for its sea beach along with activities like surfing, ATV rides, jet skiing, banana boat rides etc. The most famous attraction of Mandarmani is the 13 km long motorable Mandarmani Beach. Prior to setting out for a drive on the beach, it is better to find out the timings of high tides as water levels might rise up to the beach level.

The place is also known for its beautiful sunrise and sunset views that can be best enjoyed along the beach. At a distance of 5-6 km from the main beach is The Delta which is ideal for taking a stroll. However, the area is best avoided after dark. Numerous red crabs can be seen on this stretch of the beach.

Food & Shopping in Mandarmani

Since Mandarmani is a beach destination, it is a good place to try some fish and other seafood. Fresh fish and crabs can be bought from the local fishermen. Most resorts serve local Bengali cuisine. Prawns and crabs are the specialties of the region. Apart from the resorts, food is also available at small eateries and shacks on the beach. These mostly sell tea and snacks but food is also available provided orders are placed beforehand. But the price of food available in Mandarmani is on the higher side. For shoppers, there are objects made of different types of sea shells and oysters. These range from jewellery items like necklaces and earrings to decorative objects like wall hangings and mirrors.

Travelling to Mandarmani

Mandarmani is at a distance of over 160 km from Kolkata. Buses are available from Esplanade and Howrah to reach Mandarmani. Buses going to Digha need to be boarded with the stoppage being at Chaulkhola, after Contai. The 14 km from Chaulkhola to Mandarmani can be covered by car, cycle rickshaw or auto rickshaw.  State Transport buses cost INR 76 while deluxe coaches cost around INR 100-110. Volvos depart from Gariahat, in South Kolkata, in the morning. It takes about three hours to cover the distance. Cars can also be hired from Kolkata to Mandarmani and they cost around INR 12-INR 60 per kilometre depending upon the type of car. The nearest rail station to Mandarmani is at Contai, about 17 km away and the nearest airport is at Kolkata.

Travelling within Mandarmani

The best way to explore Mandarmani is either by foot or by hiring a bike or bicycle. Considering tourists visit the destination for its beaches, there is not much of travelling expected.

Accommodation options in Mandarmani

Hotel options in Mandarmani range for budget hotels to high-end resorts. The town also has a few options for the green traveller. Tourists are advised to book a sea facing hotel as it will provide spectacular views of the sunrise or sunset, which the town is famous for. Tourists can also book one of the many attractive holiday packages in Mandarmani to enjoy a perfect beach vacation.

Monsoon season in the region commences in the month of June and extends till the month of September, while the winter season stretches from December to February. However, it can be crowded in winter with people from nearby places flocking there for a weekend getaway. The best time to visit Mandarmani is the intermediary months between the monsoon and winter seasons.

Mandarmani beach is in West Bengal. Mandarmani beach is a calm and quite beach. It is few kilometer away from the most busy and populated beach Digha. This beach is for those who likes to enjoy the sea breeze in a calm atmosphere. It will a very soothing experience to them who leads a busy city life if they come to Mandarmani.

"Beauty and serenity!" new review

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
If you are looking for a peaceful gateway not very far away from home and also without the city hustle then Mandarmani is the perfect destination. The only thing that I find very non facilitating is the lack of electricity. Every thing runs on diesel and this makes everything quite dearer. But if cost is not a constraint then simply pack your bags and leave for the rendezvous of the sea, serenity, the horizon and you.

The beach is crowd less and awesome. Go for the hotels which have their own beach front. Most of them do so no need to worry. The air is fresh and abundant. Almost all have arrangements for good food and drinks. Savouring the sun and the sea with green coconuts in my hands is the best way I love to relax. Also don't forget to spend the evening on the beach although try to keep a little distance between you and the sea as the water keeps rising along the night. Holidayiq.com can and will get the best possible deal for you.

"Mind blowing Mandarmani!"

Digha beach : over crowded
Tajpur beach : not up to the mark

Now which place in West Bengal will come into rescue when you are looking for a beach where the sea will touch your feet and will refresh your mind, body & soul? Mardarmani is the answer.

You can ride in the motor van to visit the estuary(where a river is meeting the sea). Food is good at the beach side. Specially fried prawn and pomfret. The price is reasonable & you will enjoy the fresh cooking food a lot. Most of hotels come with swimming pool, badminton court and other amenities. So the time can be well spent besides sitting at the sea side. Beach is clean.

"Overall a nice experience"

This place is one of my favourite place near Kolkata for giving me a short break for some days. I visited this place twice. Its a clean lonely beach. 1st time when I visited no one was there in the whole beach. But second time it was little bit crowded. But OK. To take advantages of loneliness in short time from my side its a good place to travel around. Mostly all the hotel are very close to the beach and has direct access to the beach.

We stayed Hotel Sankha Bela. This is my all time favourite place to stay. The sea foods they cook, totally delicious and prices are totally pocket friendly. There is a spot to visit 'the mohona'. The van drivers took us to the spot at Rs. 250. There we saw so many red crabs and a beautiful 'jhau bon'. He also took us to the rose valley temple. It was a very beautiful temple. I love the mixed sound of breezes and bells there, it's nice if you take a small music system & headphone while wandering. Worth visiting all the spots but are bit costly. They should charged us around Rs. 100 instead of Rs. 250. But overall it is the one of the best place.

"Awesome sea Beach close to Digha"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Mandarmani is a sea beach on bay of Bengal, which could be reached by 4 hours drive from Kolkata. Calm and quite place. Speciality of Mandarmani is that it is a hard beach on which vehicles can ply easily. There are good hotels, as per your choice, available in Mandarmani. From Mandarmani you can go to Tajpur, another emerging sea beach and Digha, the popular tourist destination of Bengal. Spending time at Mandarmani is bit difficult. You can go up-to the river mouth where small red crabs can be found. If you stay in a star hotel, you will get lots of playing activities. Such hotels are having swimming pool and excellent gardens to enjoy your leisure time. It is an all seasons tourist location, where you can spend your week end.

"Calm yet Enjoyable place Mandarmani"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Many times visited Digha, but Mandarmani has its unique essence. We & our 6 crazy friends went there. First thing obviously the sea welcomes us along with the hotel. We reached at around 7 pm and take bath at sea at 8 pm, though it was risky. But we enjoyed fully. So memorable evening it was. And then the next day morning. We cant just resist ourselves to go there and just jump!! Throughout the day untill and unless we feel severe hungry we cuddling with the beach sand and water. But the eveing is most different part. Its so calm and quiet, helps to rejuvenate the mind. Really everyone should visit Mandarmani at least for once.

"The most beautiful beach in West Bengal"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Mandarmani has developed and has become popular in the past one decade. It is a much cleaner and lesser crowded destination than the more conventional Digha. Costs for the trip would be A bit more, but Mandarmani would sure live up to your expectations. To see the sun rise over the Bay of Bengal was an amazing experience in Mandarmani. I would recommend all to visit the beach early in the morning.

"Not a preferred destination"

  • 3.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
This destination is better if visited in groups of 4 or 6 and above. There are no aqua activities and the beach is also not that good. Accommodation can be booked in very reasonable prices and food is also good but nothing to do which sometimes gets boring. Its just that it is very much near to Kolkata and accessible through train and roads so it can be a preferred place for anyone who wants a silent and relaxed weekend.

"Very good place to relax & have fun"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
Very Good relaxing place. Find a good hotel. Please do not go for the cheapest rate. Relax and drink alcohol sitting in the breeze of the sea on the shore or of the shore. Do carry extra clothes. Go for the water rides. As tides are very calm you can go easily to the deep of the sea. Please do drink the mineral water only.
