"Good place to explore food and sights." new review

Mangalore Experience: Not exactly a tourist destination. Mostly attracts temple pilgrims because of the proximity to Udipi (50 km), Subramanya (90km) and Kollur (120km). However, there are several things to do here if you have no itenary. Good local bus transport (6 am to 8pm only), clean place and literate people.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Mangalore is known for its food. Good Restaurants like The village(Madhuvans), Gazalee, Anupam (Hotel Abhiman), Foodlands,Kairali , Gold finch, Deepa comforts, Kudla, Trisgna (Padavinagadi), Moti mahal etc, for non veg . Veg food at janatha deluxe, Ayodhya, Ocean pearl. Pubs like Mangala/G6, Froth on top, Liquid lounge, Mojos etc. Beach resorts like Summer sands(Ullal), Red rock (Surathkal), Must eat Ice creams at Ideal Ice cream or Pabbas, Roxx etc., Veg tiffin/Snacks at Ayodha, Taj mahal, Shiv bagh , woodlands etc., If you want to try out pork or beef go to Dolphin or mangala, Lot of juice shops, bakeries (Vas bakery, Cochin bakery), chinese snack joints, shawarma/Fried chicken places. Also food courts at the shopping malls like City centre mall, empire mall, Bharat mall, Pio mall etc.
Activities & things to do: Take a boat ride from sultan battery to tannirbhavi beach, enjoy the sunset and come back by boat. You could also hire a boat at sultan battery and go fishing in the river. Take a dolphin safari at panambur beach or ride the water scooters. Good beaches are Someshwar(Ullal), Tannirbhavi, Panambur. Surathkal light house and NITK beach (has red rock retaurant closeby for a drink or food). Take kids out to Pilikula nisargadhama which has a water park and also a nice zoo with tigers etc. There is also a snake park here with huge king cobras. The St.Aloysius college chapel is a must see with its walls painted with scenes from the bible. Temples to visit are the Kadri temple, Kateel temple etc. If you have the time visit the karinje parvat near bantwal (25 km) 0r the 1000 pillar temple at moodbidri (35km) or the temple town of dharmasthala (70km) or the statue of Gomateshwara (Bahubali) at karkal (50km) or the pilgrim town of subramanya (90km). Check out the main fishing port at bunder (early morning). Also a boat restaurant at bunder that has dinner cruises. Catch some local friends and try to watch a kambla (buffalo race) or cock fight etc.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Mangalore is well connected by rail, Air and bus routes. Beaches are not for swimming they have very steep slopes and waves can drag people quickly to the sea

"Hotel Ginger"

Mangalore Experience: Recently we visited Mangalore. The stay at Hotel Ginger was comfortable. The staff is courteous and professional. The complimentary breakfast spread was good. The 'Thali' lunch was also sumptous and good.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Make sure to visit the beautiful beaches in Mangalore. The Tannir Bavi Beach is a long stretch with hardly any crowd. The sand is light brown color and the water is very clear. Do Not Miss the sunset view over the Arabian Sea. The other beach Puntambara beach is more popular and is also good to visit. Finally do not miss a visit to IDEAL Ice Cream Parlour in town center. The Ideal special ice cream with choice of any 3 flavors and lots of nuts and fruits is a MUST. It is very filling - so remember to go on an empty stomach.
Activities & things to do: There are several temples in Mangalore for the religious minded. Udipi is also nearby about 60 kms. So also are Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanhya and Kolluru Mookambiga temples.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Best time to visit Mangalore is from June to March. Avoid the summer months of April and May when it gets a bit sultry.
