History of Murud
Murud is a small coastal village in the Raigad district of the state of Maharashtra. The village is mainly known for the world famous Murud Janjira Fort, which is famous in history for being undefeated during the invasion of the Dutch and British East India Company. In the past, Murud was called as Habsan in Marathi language. The name Janjira has been inspired from the Arabic word Janzira, which means island.
