"DAM LOCATION NATURAL"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: Nagarjunsagar dam is very huge capacity & good location. Boating & other tourist facilities are provided well. There is a water fall also at some distance but not maintained properly. May be due to less tourist as too interior place. In side dam also very good place which I saw about 6 years back.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: OK. Boating, Water Fall & tapu in the dam with tourist attraction.
Activities & things to do: Publicity must be done. Telephone room reservation should by must for tension less traveling. Room tariff should not increase from Friday night. It must be from Saturday morning only. The person leaning Saturday morning should not bond to pay more as weekends.

"Perfect weekend destination"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: Perfect weekend destination from Hyderabad, avoid going in summer though since you won’t find much of water in dam and climate will be very hot. I travelled in Jan end.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Local food is good, Vijah vihar has a very standard restaurant with costly menu, restaurants on the way to boat house and opposite to boat house are good. Sight-seeing is of course the Dam, Anapu site, Nagarjuna konda and Ettipotala falls - Read the Travel Tips section on my Itinerary of these places. No such thing as shopping.
Activities & things to do: Boat ride from dam boat house to Nagarjuna konda (about 45 mins)
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: I covered the sight-seeing places in this way: Started from hyderabad at around 5AM Reached a small town on the way around 7:30AM had a good local breakfast Reached Sagar around 8:30AM, and to the boat house in another 10 mins. The first boat starts at 9:30AM so I had time to drive to Anapu which is 8KM from the boat house, this place has some Buddhist excavations preserved here, and the garden and scenery around hills and dam waters is very good for eyes. Reached back to boat house by 9:20AM, there was not much crowd so they issued the tickets a little late and the boat started by 10AM Reached Nagarjuna Konda and back at 1PM. Drove back to Vijay Vihar (this resort is ~15KM from boat house) Had the lunch there and checked-in to the room I had booked (booking online from APTDC site) Started to Ettipotala falls around 4PM - This falls is ~20KM from resort. I reached the falls around 5PM, nothing much to see here except the falls and this falls is lighted up with lights after dark, I enjoyed seeing the falls at night in the colored lights. Reached back to Vijay Vihar at night, Dinner at a restaurant that is 1KM from Vijay Vihar Next day morning took the steps down from the back of the resort that leads upto the dam waters. This was a very lovely site to see the waters and the area around. The scenery was really awesome. Checked out around noon and reached Hyderabad in evening.

Nagarjunasagar Experience: Nagarjuna sagar is located 160 km from Hyderabad. We (me ,my husband and my son)started morning 6.30 am from Hyderabad in hoda city through ORR reached Nagarjuna sagar 10.45 am .We checked in to vijya vihar (we already booked room in ap tourism through online ).pretty descent hotel.we ate food there and relaxed for while. around 12.30 went for boating to nagarjuna konda .It took 1 hr to reach nagaarjuna konda. We enjoyed boating . In nagarjuna konda museum is located and you can dip you are feet in river Krishna water but be careful there is no proper steps to get down.We spent 11/2 hrs there. We took boat at 4 pm and reached sagar at 5pm.We had tea near by shop then we started for ethipothala water falls .It is another 15kms .water falls should be seen during night because of light and sound effects .It is wonderful experience. It is good treat to your eyes and ears. We spent 1 hrs there then we reached to hotels.Next day morning we went to swimming pool which is located in same hotel. We just chilled out and relaxed .We started from nagarjuna sagar 10.am and reached Hyderabad 2.pm .It was a good trip, a good weekend getaway from Hyderabad.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Qe stayed in vijya vihar which is basically under Andhra Pradesh tourism. It is pretty descent hotel to stay for one night. Food was good. There is no much shopping. In fact we did purchased vegetable and fruits on the way coming back to Hyderabad.
Activities & things to do: Boating and swimming.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Get proper route to reach NH road from city.4.pm is last trip for boating in Nagarjuna Konda.

"Good weekend getaway"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: Nagarjuna sagar is a nice quiet place to stay. You can find crowd during the season when the dam gates are opened. The ethipothala water falls are great. I enjoyed the stay in Harita hotel which is at a great location overseeing the sagar.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The is reasonably good at harita hotel.
Activities & things to do: Places to see Ethipothala water falls, Sagar dam
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Do not go to this place during Ganesh nimerjan it is so crowded. Other than that it is a nice place.

"Good for a good weekend"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: The last week of Jan' 2009 had a long weekend with 3 days of consequent holidays. I and my other 4 friends picked Nagarjunasagar as our destination for just fun and nothing else. We started on 24th morning at about 9 am for sagar (as its commonly called among Hyderabadis) in our Maruti OMNI. The road to Sagar via Ibrahimpatnam is the best road and we knew it like the back of our hand. We already had our bookings done at Nagarjuna Resort, Vijaypuri South which is bang opposite to the Departure point of the boats to Nagarjuna konda. We reached by lunch time. This visit was only to cut off from day to day chores and only guys around this time. No wives. Just sat and remembered the earlier bachelor days. No sightseeing and no timings to meet. Just eat, chat, enjoy good scotch and relax. Nothing to do. Went for a boat ride just upto Nagarjuna Konda and came back. If you are looking for such a weekend then nothing beats this place. Dont venture during summer because its too hot.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Sight seeing not much except for a water fall which u get to see from the top and not from below. So not so great. The museum is ok for one visit only. The gardens are well kept around the museum. Only thing kids would love is the 45 minute upstream boat ride. Nothing much to shop there except for some good books in the museum about travel places. Carry food to Nagarjunakonda because the food is lousy and expensive.
Activities & things to do: Early morning walk and a short ride on a traditional boat ride called a 'theppa' which is risky but fun. Can spend one hour for Rs 500 for 4 persons.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Lots of buses to Nagarjuna Sagar from Imliban and JBS from Hyderabad. Start at about 7 am to reach by 11 am with one stop for tea. Lots of towns and villages enroute so dont speed. Dont venture into waters because its infested with crocodiles. If travelling with families then Haritha Resorts is the best bet. It has a good view of the river and the rooms are spacious with swimming pool and play material for kids. The rates at Nagarjuna Resort on the other side of the Dam and Haritha Resorts or APTDC is same. Dont plan overnite stay at Ethipothala because its too remote a place with no crowd at all. Not worth it. Carry cool clothes because it gets hotter as day progresses. Carry mosquito repellents.

"A Tour to Nagarjuna Sagar"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: DAY: 24th January 2009 I am Debashish Samanta going to tell you about my personal experience when I had been to Nagarjuna Sagar on a fine morning. Being we both are travel freak, One day I and my wife decided to go for a long trip. Fortunately when we planed this we got a long vacation from 24 January (Saturday) to 26 January (Republic day).So we thought to utilize this long weekend. Finally we decided that we will start on 24 January (Saturday) early morning. On Friday, I thoroughly searched the google map to get a route map from my home hi-tech city to L B Nagar and Sagar road. I got the printouts so that I will not be confused once I start from home. We decided that next day morning we will start at sharp 6. Next day we got ready at 6 but it was dark outside so finally we started at 6.20am. We went as per the route map but we got bit late as I was not aware of the routes and I had to follow the map. Finally we got the Sagar route at around 7:40. After traveling for more then 20 to 25 minutes, we saw a big lake in the right side of the road. It was the Ibhrahimpatnam Lake. The panaromic view of Ibhrahimpatnam Lake was just excellent. We decided to have our breakfast there. I should thank my wife that she took the pain to prepare the breakfast in the early morning for the tour. We had an excellent breakfast and a superb tea. After having our breakfast we got some excellent snaps of the Ibhrahimpatnam Lake. We again started at around 8:20.I marked that we were 123km away from Nagarjuna Sagar. I thought, it would take around more than 2 hours to reach Nagarjuna Sagar but I should say thanks to the AP government for maintaining a non NH road so excellently. I should also thank to my Car Maruti Swift Vxi because of what I was able to catch a speed of nearly 140 Km/Hr without any kind of vibrations. We again took a break just before 20kms away from Nagarjuna Sagar. Actually to be frank enough I had an idea that there are very less things to see in Nagarjuna Sagar so just to enjoy each and every bit of time and scenery we stopped very frequently. Finally we reached Nagarjuna Sagar at around 15 minutes to 10am.We stopped and took some snaps in the Right side of the Dam then we directed for the left side of the dam from where we can take launch ride to the Nagarjunakonda museum. Nagarjunakonda was one of the largest and most important Buddhist centers in South India from the second century BC until the third century AD. There are 3 timings for the launch ride. The first one starts at 9:30 then 11:30 and the last one at 1:30.We missed the first one as that was at 9:30. I got the tickets for the launch ride and for the museum. Ticket for the launch ride was Rs.75.00 (Each) for adults and Rs.7.00 (Each) for the museum. The launch started at around 12 noon. We enjoyed the launch ride like anything. The view was excellent. We got numerous snaps. It took around 50 minutes to reach Nagarjunakonda Island. The Launch driver gave us just 1 hour time to complete the Nagarjunakonda Island. There is not much things to see in Nagarjunakonda Island except the museum and the Buddha sculptors. The garden was well maintained by the central government and the view was excellent. We started from the Island just at 2pm and reached the starting point at around 3.We were really feeling hungry by that time. I got some information about the Nagarjuna hotel just beside the booking counter of the launch. We just rushed to the hotel fearing that the food must be finished by then as it was already 3:15. Fortunately we got our food there. The food quality and test was good. After finishing our lunch we headed for the Ethipothala Waterfalls. It is just about 11 kms from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. The Ethipothala Waterfalls is on the Chadravanka River, a tributary of the Krishna. We got absolutely scenic surroundings. The water cascades down to 70 feet into a lagoon. We got some snaps there. We were there for more than 1 hour. As we wanted to cover as much as distance possible before the dusk just to avoid the night driving so we thought of starting towards Hyderabad. We headed for Hyderabad at around 5:10 pm. In between we got some excellent farming of turmeric and chilly so we stopped and grabbed some turmeric and chilly before the farmer caught us. It was en excellent experience. It took more time because of the night driving and we finally entered Hyderabad city limit at around 7:45. We were much tied so we had our food in one of the Restaurant and finally we reached home at around 9:10 pm. So we got an excellent trip and much more unexpected enjoyments throughout the move. All total it was 390kms drive for me through out the day. I should thank to my wife for an excellent companion throughout the day so that I won?t feel sleepy and get bored while driving. We enjoyed each and every bit of time/Scenery and moments.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: For Food :You can go to 'Nagarjuna hotel' just beside the booking counter of the launch. Food quality/Quantity/Taste all are good.
Activities & things to do: Watch Nagarjuna Sagar Go for Launch drive to Nagarjunakonda Watch Ethipothala Waterfalls.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: 1 The best time to Visit Nagarjuna Sagar is from June to January. 2 If you want to comeback on the same day try to start early in the morning.

"Break from Hyderabad-Nagarjunasagar Dam"

Nagarjunasagar Experience: TRIVIA It is the largest masonry dam in the world. It has 9 gates for irrigation, 11 for power, and 26 gates for the reservoir. (the number of gates info was provided by our parisal man…………parisal is a coracle boat). It is about 150 kms and takes just over 2 hours to reach this place from Hyderabad.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: As u come closer to Nagarjuna sagar you will find the Krishna river to your left, and if u have time u may take a detour and go to the river.. after this is the small hillock that u will have to cross the distance being about 2 kms. Once you reach up, it seems as a sleepy town with very little population!!!! For all lovers of some activity on a holiday… this place is a complete no-no. Other than the coracle ride there is no activity. Children will hate this place because u cannot allow them to play in the hot sun. Try to come when the gates of the dam are open. Theres nothing much to do here… and we love holidays where there is nothing much to do.
Activities & things to do: WHERE TO STAY: The best place for accommodation is available at APTDC’s Vijay Vihar Complex (Tel 08680-277362 / 277363) near the boat jetty at Vijaypuram. It is always hot here I guess as there is little vegetation around this place…we were out in summers so obviously it was burning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the room offers a great view of the Nagarjuna sagar lake. Imagine sitting in your cozy, temperature controlled room and watching the blue water glisten in the (harsh) sunlight with a book which u wanted to read from ages!!!!!!!!!!!!. I picked up a stack of new books and magazines and then I augmented my reading list with some others, which I d soon go and buy for my next break!!!!!!!! While having a glimpse of the water body far away……………… My husband was peacefully watching the cricket match… with no one to disturb!!!!!!!!!!! And that was a happy sight!!!! Time passed at its own pace and we were loving it. At about 4 pm we left to see the dam and the Ethipothala waterfall. We were not tired at all and felt all rejuvenated. In the evening we went down to the lake and sat there for few hours. Guys keep a mosquito repellent cream to spend some the quiet moments. After dinner Mukesh (my husband) and I got together for a marathon session of cards. ……. We had no clue what time we slept……as if we cared??????? IMPORTANT · This place if full on weekends so book in advance from Hyderabad at the APTDC counter. U can check the current tariff at this website: http://www.tourisminap.com/nagarjunasagardivision.htm · It was really hot when we visited, so whenever you go, make sure you do not wear anything thicker than cotton!! · Keep a mosquito repellent cream, u will need it when staying out late in the evening. · The rooms are clean and the service is just average ,but this looked like the best option for stay here .There are others which I wouldn’t want to waste time writing about. · The food is best here (north indian is satisfactory) and I suggest one to stick to the south indian fare. Its unfair to ask a cook at the punjabi dhabha to cook dosa for you and the reverse is also applicable. PLACES TO VISIT · About 10 kms from Nagarjuna Sagar you can see the ’’Ethipothala’’ Water Falls on the Chadravanka River, a tributary of the Krishna………... The tourism department have crated a viewing point but instead of listening to the gushing water, you will hear very very loud cheap film music on the lawns which oversee the Ethipothala. ……and they call it landscaping????????? But you can marvel at the shimmering water as it cascades down 70 feet into a lagoon. Also do visit A.P Tourism Souvenir Shop Gnapika at Ethipothala where you can get great gifts & mementos crafted by artisans of Andhra Pradesh. But these are also available in Hyderabad so its nothing that u ll miss!!!!!!!!!! · There’s a crocodile-breeding center but we were not really interested. · There is a buddhist monastery and a museum on an island near the dam. · Anupa A short distance away at Anupa, the Buddhist University and Stadium, which were excavated at Nagarjunasagar, have been reconstructed. The stadium boasts of the most amazing acoustics that are truly remarkable considering the time and age when it was built. A place that qualifies as a 'must-see' for everybody, interested in history, culture and architecture. · One may also visit the famous temple town of Srisailam and the wildlife sanctuary there ,which is about 1 ½ hour of drive from here.…….. we decided to go there some other time as we had promised Mom and Dad (my in-laws) a visit there…… when they come to Hyderabad .And any way just the weekend before we had gone to Warangal and seen so many temples on the way and in the city that we were still basking in the blessings earned. You can club Srisailam with Nagarjunasagar dam visit but I guess it would a packed weekend!!!!
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: ……….We both are happy to be staying busy, but we both needed a break from our schedule. My husband needed a time off from his travel for work, with no Internet access. No cooking for me, easy laundry options and time together itself was welcome. It was a much-needed breather from the normal routine . All things come to an end and so did our lazy, carefree weekend…. It is said and I strongly believe that taking time off and to just not think anything allows one to think 200000000000000 times faster. ………But ……………………….Too much thinking can be just as bad as not enough, after all…ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!
