"A beauty to explore"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Feb 22, 2017
Netarhat, a hidden small hamlet in the midst of Jharkhand. It is known as queen of Chota Nagpur. How the british discoverd this beauty of a place, hidden in the lap of dense forest of Chota Nagpur on a hilltop is really an enigma.
I first read about this place a few years ago in Lonely planet India travel book. But there it warned of nasal threats. I kept on planning but has been deferring fearing the nasal threats. Then I started Reading in different blogs and also following news articles about slow progressive improvements in conditions of Jharkhand, decided eventually to visit.
Truly good decision. We all loved the place. Such serendiptous, none of us wanted to come out. Fully recommended.

"Great off-beat destination amidst jungle and hills for refreshment"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted Jul 12, 2016
Popular as "Queen of Chotonagpur"-Netarhat, located at 3500 feet. Road to Netarhat is perfectly awesome with dense forests, cold breeze, hilly curves, mysterious sunrays through large leafs and loneliness. Tiny hill station with few hotels... Best among them is Pravat Bihar, run by JTDC... Can be booked in advance via offices, good hotel with basic and modern amenities and nice food and great location. Must visit the Sunset Point / Magnolia point 10 km away. Great view of mountain ranges, dense forest and sunset. Netarhat Residential school is a famous one with nice campus amidst nature. Other points are two small water falls nearby - upper and lower Ghagri falls. Another famous thing is Naspati (pear) gardens with cheap rates of plenty of pears to buy and eat. Nice place for weekend trip for relaxation and refreshment amidst full of greenery, pure oxygen, cool weather, healthy water, serenity and tranquility of the spot.

Weather in summer season with high temperature but low humidity, best time to visit Oct-Nov and Jan-Feb, road in Ghati approx 10km is not maintained, roads inside Netarhat is good. Netarhat school is very maintained and decorated school, students of school living in Ashrams with ashram dress code. Main attraction point is Sunset Point, Sunrise Point, Sunset Point is maintained, sometimes maoist bandh called so before going there inquire about maoist bandh, Lodh fall is 25 km from Netarhat that is a good attraction point.

"Netarhat, awesome summer retreat"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Dec 13, 2015
On the upper hills of Chota Nagpur, Netarhat is 3622ft high, situated 156km west of Ranchi. Sunrise and Sunset is famous in Netarhat. Dense forest, cool breeze, moonlit night made this place the summer retreat of British Governor. Magnolia Point, Koel View Point, Upper & Lower Ghagri, Netarhat Public School are the must visit places. I suggest visitors to also visit Lodh Falls which is located 60 kms from Netarhat. Netarhat is only connected by road. There are hotels in Netarhat, Prabhat Vihar being the best. October to March is the best time to visit Netarhat.

"Visit Netarhat only for its natural beauty"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Oct 27, 2015
Netarhat is a small hamlet in Jharkhand, about 150 km from Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand. The only way to reach Netarhat is by road.

The best location to stay in Netarhat is Hotel Prabhat Vihar of Jharkhand Tourism. Other good places to stay are Palamu Dak Bungalow and Forest Bungalow. However, one cannot make booking at these places before-hand - they are mainly meant for Government officials and may be booked on-spot, if available. Hotel Prabhat Vihar can be booked from Jharkhand Tourism offices. There are a few private hotels, but considering their facilities or rooms, their rates are pretty high, varying from Rs. 500 to Rs. 2000, depending on the rush. It would be better to avoid these private hotels in Netarhat.

Food quality and availability is very disheartening - it is better not to expect good quality food or of variety. Sunrise and sunset points are worth visiting in Netarhat. Photos attached. One should not miss the Lodh Falls, around 65 km from Netarhat. The best time to visit the place is after the rainy season - end September to end November. It is better to avoid the winter season because it would be too cold with minimum arrangements in the hotels.

"Quite place with charm of nature"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Sep 5, 2015
I lived at this place for about 5 years, studied in Netarhat Vidyalaya and has a lot to offer to nature lovers. Beautiful sunrise and sunset points, water dam, forest trail walks, pine, pears orchards, waterfalls and marvellous school culture to experience. Solar farming is new addition to the place.

Best time to visit is November and March which is pleasantly cold with pine orchards spreading the romantic fragrance into the air. School observes school day on 15th November and place is super crowded so go with confirmed accommodation. School also offers stay to only Alumni and relatives to existing students. June till September is absolutely no no as the place is heavily lashed with rainfall and place goes slippery.

"Very peaceful place which is untouched by most of the tourist"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Jul 21, 2015
Neterhat I was not sure that Jharkhand could have such a good hill station and that too untouched by most of the tourist. My experience about the place was just wonderful. Its a very quiet place with a small village and couple of boarding schools. We had a stay in government affiliated hotel. Resort which was average but the location of the resort was superb. The food was good. Hotel staff and maintenance was average. Its good for 3 or 4 days stay where you can relax and enjoy the nature.

"Quiet yet happening Netarhat"

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted Jun 18, 2015
Netarhat a small and beautiful hill station in Jharkhand is still unexplored without much intervention from pollution. Plan a small outing with your family this weekend to land yourself on this oxygen parlour. Situated on top of the mountain and 160 km away from Ranchi this place is often called "Queen of the chota nagpur plateau" overviewing the latehar district.

Hotel prabhat vihar would be a good stay to get some breathtaking views of the dense jungle amidst the mountains. Food is not that costly and is also available. A perfect place for a bonfire under the starry night. You can identify every constellation and complete galaxy on a full moon night.

Must visit the
Netarhat dam
Netarhat school
Sunrise point(just beside hotel prabhat vihar)
Sunset point
Fruit garden

Try learning some local santhali languages. This hamlet has a small market where you can get some local food items and some local artifacts.

Take medicines as there are no nearby shops. Best time to visit would be February to get the chilling weather. Temperatures drop to 2 degrees here so take enough warm clothes.
