Nongpoh is a town and the administrative headquarters in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. Situated at an elevation of 485 metres, this town forms northern lower portion of the East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya.
Khasis inhabiting this region are mostly Christians and are called Bhois. Most popular event among the people of this community is Nongkrem Dance, which is celebrated as a thanksgiving to God Almighty for good harvest, peace and prosperity of the community. Weaving cane mat, stools and baskets, is an integral part of the culture in this region.
Major attraction among the tourists visiting Nongpoh is the Road Side Market, which was once famous for its venison, parrots and myna pet stalls. Today, this market features fruit and vegetable stalls. The Orchid Lake Resort is another popular attraction among the tourists visiting this destination.
Located 53 km away from the state capital, Shillong, Nongpoh is widely known among tourists as a place to unwind and relax in peace. Nearest airport, which can be used to reach the destination is, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Guwahati Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station, which can also be used to reach Nongpoh.

Sightseeing around Nongpoh consists of the local places to visit here include the popular road side market that caters several varieties of local products. There are vegetables available in the market produced in hills and in the plains for sale. Earlier the market also had sellers of birds like parrots and mynas. This road side market is equally popular among the domestic and the international travellers.
The second attraction of the region is the Umiam Lake, a reservoir that was created after the damming of River Umiam. The construction of the reservoir was started in the later 1960s and is spread over a total area of 220 sq km. The lake is also popular for housing the first ever hydro – electric project in the north-eastern part of India.
