"Nice place for summer holidays" new review

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 days ago
Ooty is located around 306 KMs from Bangalore and and it has lot of natural beauty to surprise you.

This place is surrounded by many nice spots for picnic and outing. Best part is that you can stay here based on your budget, you can get accommodation based on your pocket and travelling around or sightseeing is not that heavy on pockets.

About food, you will get lot of options to choose from at different price range and of different qualities.

While you are in Ooty, you should go to Botanical Garden, Rose Garden, Lake/Boat House, Train ride from Ooty to Coonoor. You will find Govt buses plying to these places at very small intervals so if you want you can also use bus service.

People are very good, make sure you bargain at every stage.

Golden Rule which I follow, Start Early and Reach Early.

Ooty is a place to visit if you have a craving to go to mountains and seek adventure along with serenity. One of the best experiences I would say. Stayed at hotel residency which was on the top of the hill and had one of the best views from the balcony. Do visit the place.

"Great place for a relaxed holiday" new review

Nice climate - pleasantly cool even during summer; stay for at least 4 days; avoid week-ends as it gets too crowded. Buy local spices, green organic tea, and maybe some homemade chocolates. Travel lazily - and if you want to mingle with locals, take buses rather than taxi. Beat the crowds by taking a pre-summer visit, or better, during monsoon.

"Beat the heat" new review

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
A nice retreat to beat the heat. Beware of traffic snarls in the city during long weekends.

If you are not in the mood to visit the Botanical gardens, Lake or anything in the city I don't think traffic would be a major issue.

The maximum temperature hovered around 23C.

"Queen of Nilgiri" new review

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
Ooty is said Queen of Nilgiris. Cool, chilling climate, mountainous region, beautiful locations, tea gardens, dense Nilgiri trees erupting 100s of feets from the ground and farms make it heaven and very delightful to watch the Nature.

Ooty City is small in area, all these beautiful nature, attract heavy tourism making it overcrowded place. Narrow roads, huge number of tourist have made Ooty to lose its charm.

Go to the Rose Garden, enjoy the varieties of Roses, experiences calmness and wide variety of plants in Botanical Garden, take a paddling boat and enjoy the Ooty Boat house. All these things will make you forget the crowd and noise of the City. Take little time and visit to Carrot and Cabbage farm. There are many farms growing Cabbage and Carrots.

Ooty is famous for Chocolates, Kings shop near Botanical Garden, were the first to start this business. Enjoy tasty and delicious chocolates. Go to the Commercial road buy sweaters, stoles, shawls. Toda Shawls and Jewellery are very famous. Buy them and wonder the art of Toda people. And lastly, the heart of Nilgiris, the Nilgiri Mountain Railways. Take a ride in NMR from Mettupalayam to Ooty for breathtaking views of Nilgiri mountains or if you don't have much time, take a short journey from Ooty to Coonoor. Without Travelling in Nilgiri Mountain Train, your trip to Ooty will be incomplete.

"Experience winter during peak summer" new review

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
We visited Ooty for 3 days when the temperature at Bangalore was hovering at 40. Was delighted with cold weather at Ooty. There was no provisions for air conditioner or fan at rooms and we didn't even feel the need for it. There are plenty of sightseeing points but it was too crowded as its summary vacation time. Breathtaking nature around. Facility wise it's not exactly a tourist friendly place and renting car for local sightseeing was very expensive affair and totally unjustified. Every spot has entry free and old colonial era rules like having entry fee for carrying camera etc. Really stupid and lazy of authorities not to remove such Irrelevant rules when practically everyone has camera in their pockets now with their cell phones. Cleanliness was ok and the blame lies with visitors who have no sense of "not to litter". Indians have long way to go on this front. Overall, its beautiful hill station with amazing weather throughout the year if one just wants to go and relax.
