Overview of the destination If you are a nature lover, then must visit Port Blair and the Andaman and Nikobar Islands. I visited the place and islands during 1st week of Feb and had memorable experience.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping Ther are many North Indian and South Indian Outlets in Port Blair. I liked food at Dream Palace at Haddo, Driftwood and Lighthouse restaurants. One may explore food at Lodges near Delanipur and near City Bus stand for taste and budget suiting your pocket.
Port Blair itself has unique history associated with it. The Cellular Jail , which speaks of the cruelty of British rulers to Indian Prisoners is the most visited place. I feel proud to be Indian after visiting Cellular Jail. The north bay islands (Ross Island, North Bay and Viper Islands) are worth seeing. The sea and beach experience including swimming, snorkeling at North bay Island beach is really enjoyable. The sea life, beautiful sea fish which have black and yellow, purple, parrot and many other colours and different kinds of corals in shallow sea are unique life time experience.
A day's trip to Wandoor with Jolly Buoy beach is worth. lan early to sea Sippighat farm on the way (15 Km from Port Blair). After spending an hour at Sippighat reach Wandoor around 900 am to catch the First boat of 0930 Hrs for Jolly Buoy and enjoy the swimming, snorkeling and corals.
One must visit Havelock and Neil Islands. Beach No. 7 of Havelock is a beauty on earth.
We also visited Baratang Islands. Started early at 400 AM from Hotel. The buses reach J'Tang area of south Andaman from where all vehicle move in a Convoy through 50 KM Jarwa Tribe Forest to Baratang in Middle Andaman. On this 50 Km stretch you can see Jarawas who are Black in colour and wear only cloths around the genitals. The Jarawa area is under the control of Forest and Envt. deptt and you are not allowed to stop the vehicle or feed the Jarawas. I found Jarawas quite peaceful,. though people of the Island say they were agressive som time before. The Limestone Caves and Mud Islands of Baratang Island are worth seeng.
Places in and near Port Blair worth visit are Mount Harriet which is 8 Km. from Bamboo Flat. You may first visit Chatham Saw Mill (830 AM to 1430 PM, Sunday Closed), then nearby catch ship for Bamboo Flat and then go by Jeep (Rs. 300 To and Fro to Mt. Harriet). If you have a day free then may venture walking 16 Km. to and Fro. A day's trip to Mount Harriet and nearby Madhuban (Another 10-15 Km from there) is worth planning.
