Overview of the destination
I have been to most of the hill stations in South India (Ooty, Wayanad, Munnar, Coorg) but trip to Chikmagalur was best amongst all of them. This place doesn't have too many places to see or any points which needs to be covered. But, it's like a beautiful picture that you should just sit back, relish and admire.
To enjoy the full beauty of this place, you should have your own 4 wheeler that you can take around to wander in distant scenic locations. Especially, route from Belur to Chikmagalur is just awesome.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
1. You must visit Hebbe Falls in Chikmagalur. It is around 60 km from town.
2. You should see the panoramic view from Mullyangiri
3. Bhadra wildlife, Kalghati falls, Baba Budan can be skipped if you have less time. Activities & things to do
1. For Hebbe falls, you have to drive till Kemmengudi. From there you have to take a taxi for 14 kms to Hebbe Falls, which charges Rs 150 per person. It'll drop you to a point, from where you need to walk for a Km and cross three water streams to reach Hebbe Waterfall. As the rocks are slippery, you can't stand below falls. But, you can be in the pond and enjoy water gushing into pond from rock. Non-swimmers should avoid getting into pond and should enjoy mist near the shore.
2. Bhadra wildlife safari can be done at 0630 am or 0430 pm only. However, officials out here are quite lazy and often cancel safari giving various excuses. Moreover, you don't get to see much except bison and peacock. So, try it out without any expectations :) Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
HEBBE FALLS
1. MUST CARRY ample SALT to Hebbe falls, since leeches would be there to welcome you. Nothing to be scared of, it won't hurt you and gets off easily if you put salt on them. Don't pull them else it might hurt you.
2. Wear Shorts and Carry umbrella/wind cheaters as well as floaters/slippers. Since, you have to cross water streams - shoes are not advisable.
3. You won't get to eat anything there so pack your lunch from Chikmagalur before heading there. |
