'robbers' cave-dehradun
Overview of the destination
A half hour's drive from the main city, the 'Robbers' (or is it Rover's? No one knows) caves are a good getaway on a hot summer day. Still not commercialised, the crowd is less, and as you go deeper into the caves, it gets better. Filtering light from the top and cold water underneath, one can wade and squeeze through to a rather clear opening with lots of good clean water...

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Dehradun as such also has a lot of things to offer for site-seeing. One is robbers' cave (see photos), then of course the Rajaji national park, the Tibetan monastery. Must-try is the bakery products from a few well-known shops in the city- especially the sweet buns, brownies and stick-jaw toffees.

Activities & things to do
A good break, but just for a day or two, unless you have someone staying there. One can enjoy the greenery and the weather, the drives (to Mussoorie and Rishikesh)...however, there is not much to do after 9pm...Not very many eating joints either. But otherwise, go replenish your senses!

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
A 6-hours drive by road; Shatabdi too is convenient. The drive towards Dehradun is quite pleasant, with the famous 'daat kaali' mandir at the entrance. Mid-way between Delhi and D'dun is Cheetal- a very beautiful and clean stop for snacks and rest.

 visit to chakrata
howfar is chakrata from dehradun.can we visit the place. if so what are the staying arrangements over there
 Best time to visit Uttaranchal
We are planning to visit Uttaranchal sometime this year, but in a bit of dilemma about the time of visit. I had been to Himachal last year and the time of the year we visited was not the best one (late October) and most places had dried out. I would be thankful if someone here gives me an idea on the best time of visit to Uttaranchal. I am not really longing for snow, but would like to see either greenery or snow, but certainly not the period in between, with trees shedding leaves. Any information or pointers to such information would be highly appreciated! Thanks for your help, in advance.
