| Kamal Patiala | 28th March 2007 | | | New Delhi - The modern India - the place to | Overview of the destinationNew Delhi is the place to be - to live in & to enjoy !!
For outsiders it is a way to see the modern India along with the cultural heritage, all at once. There are number of places to visit and so many to hangout. I am sure there is something for everybody in it. Food, sight-seeing and shopping Places to be at- Connought Place, Palika Bazar, India Gate, Red Fort, Birla Mandir, Jama Masjid, Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Jantar Matar, Pragati Maidan, Appu Ghar and nearby Akshardham Temple.
Towards south, you'll find Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar and Nehru Place (IT Hub), and places like South-Ex & Greater Kailash are ones to hang-out. Go out for shopping to famous 'Chandni Chowk', Karol Bagh & Punjabi Bagh. Other than that you can hangout at a number of shopping Malls and don't miss to travel through the wonderful Delhi Metro. Nearby sub-urbs Noida, Gurgaon, Indirapuram are must visit to see modern architectures. Eat out at any good Punjabi Restaurant. Activities & things to do Delhi is wonderful Tourist attraction - Forts, Temples, Ancient Architectures, Museums, Modern Architectures, Shopping Malls, Multiplexes, Amusement places, wonderful markets where you'll find everything you want and food for every taste.
Visit Pragati Maidan during the Trade Fairs and wonderful Gardens around Delhi like Lodhi Garden, Indraprashta garden, etc during the springs.
Do find out a time to visit Noida (Sector-18 especially) & Gurgaon (DLF city) Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Catch a taxi from the airport or an auto from Railway Station towards the Central Delhi, where you can stay around in one of the numerous hotels. For roaming around near CP just walk around the places, as a lot of those are very close to each other. For other places hire a taxi for the whole day to take you around. Plan your own visit before you start. Or you can take the wonderful metro to reach to your destinations wherever you can find the route for.
Beware of the thieves, pick-pockets and fake peoples and take good care of your luggage, gadgets & wallets where ever you go around in Delhi, especially in crowded places. | |

Ginger Hotel @ Kashmere Gate | | Hi.
I am planning to visit Delhi in Dec last week. I have been reading rave reviews about the Ginger Hotel in Delhi which is situated just outside the railway station in the Kashmere Gate area. While I have no doubts about the quality of Ginger - being a Tata group set-up - I am a little worried about the location itself. Could any of the members please throw some light on this matter? My experience is that typically the areas near railway stations are overcrowded and filthy and very down market. Is this case with the Kashmere Gate area? Or is it different?
Any suggestions for good, clean, reasonably priced hotels are also welcome.
Thanks & regards | | Urgent enquiry about a safe, cheap place to stay for single | | My wife has a long transit in Delhi and as she is travelling alone, we would like to know of a safe, cheap place for her to stay in Delhi preferably in south delhi, near the international airport. We were informed of YWCA and YMCA tourist hostel, but we have been unable to make a booking there.
Thanks

we are from sri lanka and my wife and I are planning to spend a couple of days in Delhi before proceeding to Manali. Would appreciate if you could let us know some hotels in Delhi that safe, clean and cheap (we are looking at hotels less than INR 3000). We also would like to know if there are any places to get taxi to Manali. We did check on the wbesite but they quoted prices around INR 14000 for a 6 days trip to Manali and back.
Thanks
