| SUREJ Bangalore | 28th April 2006 | | Calangute- Baga Beach - Goa | Overview of the destination The place is beautiful but tends to get crowded mainly in the Calangute Area as lot of tourist buses stop here for day visitors. The day should be spent lazing around in the Baga Beach or the one km stretch in between the both of them .Food, sight-seeing and shopping Sight seeing should be done on a lazed out pace of your own. You can hire bikes in any of the teashops in Calangute ( Alex) for Rs 150 depending on the condition. You should then check out Old Goa, St Francis Church, visit Vasco and then return after taking the one hour cruise on Mandovi River. Shopping please avoid other than a few trinkets available in the sidewalks of Calangute. Activities & things to do Mind should be clearly set on a lazy holiday to be spent on the beaches, late breakfast on the beach shacks, lunch near the beach and dinner a little away. You can hit the night spots, disco near Baga but take your own partner. Couples are more accepted in the whole of Goa unless you are a good looking single Indian woman. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. You can travel by train- Bangalore to Vasco but Calangute by Bus via Panjim gets ardous . So travell Sleeper Bus from Bangalore - Panjim then bargain with a taxi for Rs.200 to Calangute. Then shack up in any of the small hotels.
All such places cater to the European needs i.e clean toilet and clean beds and are cheap Rs 250 - 350 per day. A little bit of preference is given by the hotels restaurants staff to the foriegn tourists - so if you do tip as most Indians Dont - then on the second meal you can see the changes.
Calangute is not a safe beach, deep. so use Baga . | |
