Overview of the destination My first opinion after seeing this location is good why because it started to drizzle little bit when we reached there and we saw the real beauty of this location and that is what we heard about....VISIT LONAVALA IN MONSOONS.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping We had lunch in the same resort which is not that expensive and the taste was just about OK. Then we decided to hire a taxi. The receptionist of the resort arranged one for us for Rs 1050 and it included a package of 5 hours & 6 destinations etc. We first went to the Monkey point, then to the Sunset point, then to the Lonavala lake, Dam, Lions Point and in return visited the Ryewood Park, another Dam (its a private Dam owned by Tata Group) and in the last visited the Karla Caves (though we didn't go inside the caves because the entry will be closed by 6 PM for general public) and came back to the Resort at 7 PM.
Probably the good thing is ..where ever we went there were occassional spell of rains and we really enjoyed.
When we were travelling, bought Chikki and Fudges at Maganlal and A1 Chikki shops which were on the Lonavala main road.
The next day, we spent our time at leisure doing the below recommended things under 'things to do' section.
Activities & things to do Buying chikki is definitely a must here. MTDC karla has a private lake and boating centre. Go and have a boat ride. Also, near the boat ride, there is a small tent which sells good ornaments / apparels. Definitely worth the price as we bought many things from him.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. We were a group a 6 people who went to Lonavala on 20th June 08. We took a train from Hyderabad to Lonavala (Mumbai exp) and reached Lonavala at 10:20 AM. As we already booked, MTDC resort in Karla, we took auto (3 autos at Rs 80 each) to reach there which is around 8 kms from Lonavala. So our trip went along in this way...1st day) hired taxi and went along the 5 hour - 6 destinations. 2nd day) Spent time in leisure... looking around the resort, boating, and camel ride and booze.... Remember finding Liquor is very difficult at this resort where we stayed in. So always buy liquor in abundance when you see a wine shop on the way(we spent Rs 120 for auto to go and buy Liquor as no transport means are available).
