Food, sight-seeing and shopping
There are plenty of options for sigh-seeing. While near the town, one can visit the Jhakoo temple, summer hill etc. On the other hand, nearby attractions include Fagu valley, Kufri and Chail. The mall offers plenty of shopping options but most of the stuff is from Delhi itself, a better choice is to shop at the 'Lakadd Bazaar' for some amazing wooden stuff.

Activities & things to do
Shimla falls short on this front, as do most of the other hill stations in India. Activities are limited to a skating arena (which is really badly managed), a trek to the nearby attractions like the summer hill or the adjoining water falls, a leisurely walk on the mall or may be a short horse ride around scandal point.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Shimla is very well connected by road and in my opinion if possible one should drive down to Shimla. A drive from Delhi would take apporximately 7 hours and its approximately 350 kms. On the other hand one could take the overnight train to Kalka and from there take the toy train up to Shimla. This is much more time consuming as the journey from Kalka to Shimla on the toy train usually takes about 6 hours. But its a good experience, especially for the kids.
