Overview of the destination
Dont go there if you are expecting to be in the middle of mountains, chikmaglur is actually situated at the base of the hills and just where the coffee estates start. The weather is exactly like bangalore, so dont bother carrying wollens etc, unless you plan to trek or spend night in the mountains. Taj in the town is a decent place to stay, although I have seen and expericenced better taj properties. The experience changes once you get out of town and head to the hills.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Food at Taj is ok. Just about eatable. You can trek if you are adventurous. Must see around the place is Bellur, Hallebid, BBgiri mountain, and if your car/vehicle is also adventrous, then one can dare to drive to Kemengudi. The roads are all right till BBgiri mountain, but after that it kind of looses its identity. It doesnt know that it has to remain a road :-) Activities & things to do

Watch out for Karnataka Tourism sign boards which are at the right place, but unfortunately they didnt factor the 40KMPH speed that these roads allow you. So you end up going up to the board, and reading the direction. While crossing Hassan, the roads and directions are absolutely pathetic, so dont be shy in asking directions. Rest is a breeze. Single carriage road all the way, and on weekends you will find the call center cabbies ferrying lots of pilgrims. Beware !!! |
