Overview of the destinationMy overall experience of Hampi was wonderful. The place is simply beautiful. You are transported into a completely different world the minute you enter Hampi. It takes you back by a few hundred or maybe even a thousand years. The experience is simply superb. It's a must-visit for all you!
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
There are not too many places to stay around Hampi. One hotel that I would dsefinitely recommend is Hotel Malligi in Hospet, which is just about 7 kms from Hampi. It's equipped with all facilities including a spa and a couple of boutiques within the hotel premises!
One MUST visit the restaurant 'Mango Tree' in Hampi. Very nice ambience and excellent food as well. Has a very unique ambience. Set amidst mango trees, it's lovely. You just enjoy your food a lot more, thanks to the ambience!
The only place you can go shopping is the Hampi Bazaar, where your bargaining skills will be tested to its limit!
Activities & things to do
Sightseeing is pretty much the only activity in Hampi. Beautiful old temples, ruins of the Vijayanagar kingdom, great Indo-Islamic architecture are some of the things you can look forward to seeing. Some of the architecture is really breathtaking. The stone carvings are fabulous as well.
One can also take a coracle ride on the river, which is pretty enjoyable.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
You can reach by rail, road and air. Air Deccan has introduced flights to Hospet. The best time to visit Hampi would be in the month of December or January. It can get very hot in Hampi after February. Make sure your camera is loaded before you go to Hampi:-)
