| Padmaja Hyderabad | 20th May 2006 | | Dakshina Kannada ? Unending Tourism | Overview of the destination one cannot just explain in words - to be experienced in person. The circuit covered Mangalore, Dharmasthala, Kukke, Udipi, Malpe, Kateel, Moodabidri, Shringeri, Soothanabbi Falls, Hornadu, Karkala, Kollur, Murdeshwar, Idagunji, Jogfalls, Gokarna & Sirsi by carFood, sight-seeing and shopping Absolutely no long queues for darshans at temples; No high-cost pujas, and VIP Darshans; Free Chappal Stands; Every temple provides free food (called Prasadam); Every temple has provision for accommodation (paid rooms); Karnataka Tourism?s Help Desk is not seen at any of the above locations; Unending greenery with thick jungles, and good roads; Weather is absolutely normal and pleasant; There was not a single instance that we saw either the Traffic Police Department or the Law and Order Department conducting ?Security Check? and penalizing everyone. Activities & things to do not a pinch on pocket, one must see in lifetime Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. The writer along with his spouse and 13-year son, had been on a trip to Dakshina Kannada. With the help of information from internet, colleagues, and newspapers, short-listed the places to be covered.
Reached Mangalore by train from Secunderabad, and at the end of trip took train from Hubli to Secunderabad. Mangalore Railway Station itself is a tourist attraction depicting early-British look. Its old grandeur is untouched. With the help of a car spared by my friend, which was very well driven by chauffeur Manjunath, our journey commenced from Mangalore and safely ended at Hubli. | |
