Overview of the destination Kedarnath a place right in the lap of nature, extremely beautiful and cold. The Kedarnath temple is open only in limited seasons. The doors of temple are closed on the next day of Diwali. They are opened then only in the month of May. In fact, Kedarnath is not a destination by itself, one has to stay at 'Gaurikund'. Kedarnath temple is the place where one can do darshan and come back.
It indeed is a fantastic place to visit, but there is a lot of struggle to be done to reach the temple.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping Well, normal veg food is available at Gaurikund and Kedarnath both. Gaurikund is a dry place since the area is a pilgrim and considered sacred. Well nothing to shop as such and the whole route to Kedarnath from Gaurikund is worth seeing.
Activities & things to do Cars or buses can go only till Gaurikund, then there is a trek of 14 Kms to be walked. The weather at this place changes like winds. You'll see shining sun and within next one hour it'll be raining cats and dogs. One needs to rest at Gaurikund because next day one has to walk a lot.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Carry lot of warm clothes since the weather is always quite chilly and do carry a good thick raincoat too coz it might rain any time. One has to hire a horse or a doli to go up which takes a break at Rambara, a place at 7kms from Gaurikund. . well if your strength and stamina permits, you can also walk up till the pilgrimage.
