Overview of the destinationIf India would have been the Land of the rising SUN, it would definitely have risen from the SUN TEMPLE at KONARK. It is here that one comes to realise that even single inch of the rock walls can speak and has so much to tell.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
The young green coconuts that awaits one just outside the world heritage site really provides the much needed succour to the thirsty throats after a round of the Sun Temple. It also provides the opportunity to wonder with awe how such a magnificent chariot of seven horses and 24 wheels could have been made by people like us, 700 years back. Though a few shops are available which sells souvenirs peculiar to the golden triangle of Puri, Bhubaneswar and Konark, the best catch are the packets of Cashew nuts, which are locally grown there and are quite cheap, though care must be taken to examine thoroughly the scale pans of the vendor before the weighing begins.
Activities & things to do
The sea at Konark is wonderfully serene and the call of the sea there is very hard to resist. It is devoid of the rush in the beaches that can be seen in nearby Puri, and hence is just the right place for a quite contemplation and introspection.
