Overview of the destinationLonar Crater is an excellent place to visit for people who love trekking and nature at its resplendent best! Located some 160 km from Aurangabad, its easily accessible by car / bus. The nearest railway station is Jalna on Manmad-Nanded society.
The crater is close to 7 kms in circumference and close to 170 meters deep. It was formed close to 50,000 years ago due to a meteoric impact. It also has an unique form of ecological system there which isn't found anywhere else so easily. There are a few temples (seven, i guess) around the place which are also worth a visit.
Whats more, its India's only impact crater!

There is an excellent MTDC resort around. I found the service pretty good there. Rooms are pretty decent and not much of a crowd.
