Overview of the destination Hearing name of Matheran everyone can imagine the mountain, hilly tracks.. Yes, it was all that when we visited last September.. This was my first visit to Matheran.. My family was also with me Wifee & two small kids.. I drove myself to small hilly track for around 30 mins reaching last point where cars can go. Then have to walk upto the matheran center point. Now the treking started.. From parking there is way going thru hills, which does not have any road. Its totally hilly track with mud between thick forest.. Its around 1.30hrs of walking this uphill task to reach matheran. With small kids heavy task. So had to take horse ride for wife & kids but walked myself.. Then on reaching top thought we would get main road & some shops around as imaged in other mountain cities like shimla, mussouree, etc. But when reach the hotel, there was no sight of road. On asking people around came to know that there is NO road in whole Matharen.. Road means normal road we usually drive in cities.. So, whereever you go there will be this muddy with big stones way.. So, walking on that with kids was not eaasy so we stayed in hotel for night. Next day we had no choice but to take horse ride to visit view point. Although the atmosphere was cool & relaxing but the two days vacation actually became more tiring when we returned back home.. So, if you can walk & walk & walk OR just stay in hotel to see the scenery then good place to visit...
Food, sight-seeing and shopping All type of Food is mostly available inside Hotel. Not much places to eat outside. Couple of joints or restaurants to serve food. No shopping places except couple of stalls with wood or chappals....
Very good for sight-seeing over green mountains!!
Activities & things to do Walk & Walk.. Relax & feel the Greenry around..
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Just keep walking.. Around 60-70 km from Vashi, Navi Mumbai..
