Overview of the destination This is a place to be if you want to go away from crowds and find some time to be with yourself and your family. This is a small town/village which has very good and clean beaches. It is most likely that you would be the only person on the beach in the morning. In the evening you may find some local on the beach but again it will not be a crowd. A perfect place for family outings or to escape from the daily grind of the cities.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping There are not many good places to eat. Though you may find few stalls at the choupati. For good food, you may want to try the Golden Swan beach resort. A trip to the Janjira fort is a must. The fort is accessible only by boats. There are boats services available (Rs 15 per head) to take you to the fort every hour or so. If you do not want to wait for the boats then you can hire a sail boat for your self. There is the Nawab's palace close by. You may expect to find some good sea food here but unfortunately I could not find any such place.
You can give shopping a slip at this place as there is nothing that you would want to buy.
Activities & things to do This being a small town there is nothing much to do here if you get bored of the sea and the beaches. But if you like the sea and the beaches then you can spend your mornings and the evening on the beach. A quite walk on the soft sand at night is a wonderful experience. You can visit the choupati at night for some time pass. You may want to walk up to the nawab's palace and click a few picture. If you are staying at the golden swan beach resort then you can ask the staff to arrange for lots of things. For example they have carom boards, chess boards, etc and they can also arrange volleyball and net.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. It is advisable to travel to this place in your own car. There is not much of a public transport system available here. This place is some 45 km further away from Ali Baug. From Pune, it is around 230 km. If you are travelling from pune then take the exit to khapoli and from here take the road to Pen. This is a short route but the road is in a bad condition. I will advise you to go to Panvel and take the Goa high away. You will save lot of time.
