Overview of the destination Essentially Igatpuri & Bhandardara hill stations are Kandala & Lonavla for the middle class people in Mumbai. It is at same sea level & approx distance/travelling time as Lonavla but not as commercialized & expensive as the latter. I shall also recommend Igatpuri as a resting halt for pilgrims going to Shirdi from Mumbai.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping Jawhar is 61 km. The Jai Vilas, the palace of the tribal lords, the relics of Bhupatgad, and Warli paintings are worth a visit. The scenery at Bhandardara Lake (dam) & Vaitarna dam is very beautiful in the monsoons. You should also visit Deola Falls. The Vipasana meditation centre at Igatpuri is a recommended place for learning meditation. It is a ten days course free of cost with lodging and meals.
You can do Window-shopping at the Spiritual Bazaar at the Vipasana meditation centre. At a nearby small village named Goti you can get fresh farm produce.
Activities & things to do Igatpuri is a great place for trekking (Kalsubai, Ratangad, Katrabai). Bhandardara is a water sports paradise at a very reasonable costs.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. The distance from Mumbai is approx 120 kms via Kasara ghat on the Mumbai -Agra highway (3 hrs). The distance from Nasik is 65 kms.
Summer season is hot (approx 35 degree celcius). Best time to visit is Monsoon and winter.
Drive carefully especially in monsoons as the visibility is very low due to mist.
I will be traveling to Nasik soon in this month and wish to know about some good comfortable and centrally located resorts/ hotels. Duration of stay will be about 4-5 days. Also suggest what are the recommended sightseeing options near-by that may be covered in the daytime. Any info re accomodation options near the Trimbhakeshwar temple shall also be appreciated. Thanks in advance
