Pelling is a wonderful getaway from Gangtok. This is possibly the closest you can get to the Kanchanjungha range.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Stay at Hotel Sonam Chen which is moderately priced and value for money. Make sure you get a mountain facing room on a higher floor. Early in the morning just open your window and get a breath taking view of sunrise on the mountains. Chinese and Bengali food is available in plenty.

Activities & things to do
Tour operators have a morning and an afternoon tour programme which covers the Kanchanjangha Falls, Holy lake and Monastery. Make sure you get a comfortable 4X4 vehicle, as roads are not too good, and distances covered are a lot.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
You can reach Pelling by road both from Gangtok as well as Darjeeling. Return to Siliguri to catch your return train / flight. Allow for 5 - 6 hours of travel each way.

Pelling quiet and very little know hill spot in Sikkim. Because of it's not so popular and widely reknowned status it is at advantage of being very quiet and nature friendly hillspot which is hence a ideal place for honeymooners.Located at an altitude higher than Gangtok and because of it's proximity to the magnificient sun bathed Kanchanjunga mountains Pelling is in itself a very good tourist attrcation. If one has to get a finger touch glimpse of Kanchanjunga then go to Pelling. But the greatest pleasure is population in Pelling. Hardly you get to see 5 persons in 5 km stretch inside the hillstation. The streets wore such a quiet and sleepy clothing

There is a rock park, two waterfalls where you can see some good amount of people, a monastry, a wishing lake . you can complete the full Pelling sightseeing in one day and leisure the next day around your hotel . All aroung you wil get magnificient views of mountains and waterfalls. You can spend the 2nd day shopping at some of the shops the traditional sikkim handicrafts. You wil get beautiful coloured and threaden skarfs at cheap prices.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra near siliguri and the nearest rail head is New JalpaiGuri 6 kms from Siliguri . From Siliguri you can hire a car or qualis or sumo and reach Pelling in 5 hrs. The road from Siliguri to Pelling is very steepy and narrow.Hence it is advisable to go by car/ qualis rather than by bus. Also bus services is not so frequent... once a day
