in the golden temple, 'seva' or serving 'langar' is a good activity. one can always offer to serve food there. eating is another unforgettable experience, whether it is the 'langar' at the gurudwara or paranthas and kulchas outside. and the prashad or 'kadaah' is yummm. dont forget to binge on stuffed kulchas, they're amongst the best you'll find anywhere

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
best bet is the swarn shatabdi from chandigarh, to and fro. it is cold in winters, mostly dips in minus degrees, so appropriate clothing is a must. please be careful when buying collectibles, as there are good chances of getting fleeced. best to take an idea of the prices from the locals and bargain accordingly.
