| divya Faridabad | 25th May 2006 | | bliss | Overview of the destination Golden Temple or Darbar Sahab beholds an unmatched serenity. Tranquil energy. Impeccably clean, these corridors are the best you?d?ve ever walked. The gold temple on water- so mesmerizing that tears could flow like a song... language no bar when it comes to the kirtan. Walking, bathing, eating, everything feels like a prayer. jallianwala bagh on the absolute contrary, fills one with ignominy, rage. blood spots and bullet marks greet you. You?d want to turn away, just look at the bagh as a park, yet visit and revisit in your thoughts what u saw. Depite and irrespective, its a must see...Food, sight-seeing and shopping site seeing would be these two sites. shopping, yes, dont forget to get the amritsari papads and vadis. they're available in many varieties and colours..just take what looks good to you, and if you cant decide, a random pick because all are good. you could buy a 'kada' (bangle), kirpan (dagger) from the golden temple souvenier shops Activities & things to do in the golden temple, 'seva' or serving 'langar' is a good activity. one can always offer to serve food there. eating is another unforgettable experience, whether it is the 'langar' at the gurudwara or paranthas and kulchas outside. and the prashad or 'kadaah' is yummm. dont forget to binge on stuffed kulchas, they're amongst the best you'll find anywhere Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. best bet is the swarn shatabdi from chandigarh, to and fro. it is cold in winters, mostly dips in minus degrees, so appropriate clothing is a must. please be careful when buying collectibles, as there are good chances of getting fleeced. best to take an idea of the prices from the locals and bargain accordingly. | |
