| divya Faridabad | 31st May 2006 | | Bird watchers? paradise | Overview of the destination Bharatpur is famous for its bird sanctuary (Keoladeo National Park), which is now a heritage site. There isn?t very much else about the place and that?s fine because the sanctuary is all-consuming and worth a visit all for itself. It is a small place, dusty; roads are congested except in and around the sanctuary. There are a whole lot of cyber cafes and medical shops. Located close to Agra and Jaipur, the place justifiably adds to the tourism value of Rajasthan.Food, sight-seeing and shopping Typical site-seeing material is the ?Deeg Palace?, which you could visit if you have the time and mood. It?s huge, has all features typical of a fort and a couple of gardens.
Attractions-artificial thunder arrangement and well preserved murals. The palace resonates with the story of a dancer who gave her life for the love of the king. If you have some more time at hand and thinking of a way to spend it, could check out the Bharatpur Palace as well. Activities & things to do Bird watching at the sanctuary is a gratifying experience. It?s fun to take a ?taanga? (horse cart) for traveling within the sanctuary till the point it is allowed. If you?re fond of cycling, there could be nothing better than riding through the sanctuary on a hired cycle. If you have the patience and a wee bit of luck, you get to see many species in all their hues and tantrums. O what penache..especially the peculiar features these birds develop during their mating time like fringed tails. Beware of pythons, jackals etc. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. There are a few popular lodging options but ?The Bagh? is the best. For something lighter on the pocket one could stay in a haveli-turned-lodge. Accommodation within the sanctuary is attractive because of its location, but the amenities are pathetic. A guide is a must when you visit the sanctuary. You could ask the hotel to arrange one for you and the proposition is a rather affordable one. During summer time, it?s crucial to have a cooling headgear and an effective sunscreen; advisable to visit in winters. Carry first aid. Don?t forget your binoculars and camera, of course! | |
