Udaipur is called the City of Lakes. The regular tourist spots are nothing to be wasted time on, minus the City Palace, which invites you with its grandeur. It is well maintained and well worth 2 visits during your stay. Whats good about Udaipur is its winding narrow roads that give you ample opportunity to walk through the colourful streets and winter is the best season to be there (November - February). Some fine hotels spoil you for choice. The ghats are in a sorry state and going anywhere near the lakes is not a pleasant sight.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
We bought tickets for a boat ride in Lake Pichola from the City Palace ticket counter and the boat left from the deck of Hotel Fateh Prakash. The boats were very neat and the ride too was a pleasant one. If you take the local boats, you have to see much of the filth and i think taking it from City Palace is a much better option.
Many other popular tourist spots like Nehru Island park and Monsoon palace are something you can do without visiting. Remember, a traveller does not stick to popular tourist spots. He/she finds new ones..untouched and unexplored! Activities & things to do

Good roads connect Udaipur to Gujrat and Jaipur. It also has an airport and railway connections from Delhi/Jaipur are aplenty. | |

I am searching for a good hotel to stay for my visit in October. I would like a lake-side hotel, so want to know if its better to stay in Lake Pichola hotels or Lake Fatehsagar hotels ? I prefer a less crowded area, which shouldnt be too far from the main city and tourist areas. I will be staying with my wife. My only criteria is that the room should be good - clean, fairly large and a view of the lake. I read that some hotels beside lake pichola offer dirty views of nallah-like water or people bathing/washing clothes.. which would be a turn off for me
Based on my search I shortlisted Tiger hotel, Kankarwa Haveli and Lakend, Lake View Villa homestay. Please advise
Also, how is weather in October, is AC required or will it be too cold ? | |
