Udaipur - a romantic city
Overview of the destination
Udaipur is, perhaps the only city in Rajasthan which is blessed with natural surroundings. Tucked in Aravalli hills, the city virtually breaths on Lake Pichola which is the hub of the tourist activities. It is a wonderful place for honeymooners as well as for those who have interest in historical places and country sides.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Among the sight seeing places, City Palace & Museum, Bagore ki Haveli, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon ki Bari and Shilpigram are not to be missed. The best way to explore old city is to take a walk around Lake Pichola - particularly Lalghat and Hanuman Ghat areas through narrow lanes. In the afternoon, one can have boat cruise in Lake Pichola. We took lunch at Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel and candle light dinner at Ambrai Restaurant. Both have superb location, tasty food and service. We did shopping in Bapu Bazar in the fixed price shops.

Activities & things to do
Major activities include boating in Lake Pichola and Fatehsagar Lake and horse rides/camel safari in the country side around Udaipur. There are lots of options for day trip from Udaipur. The 'not to be missed' day trip excursions are (i)Chitaurgarh Fort (112 kms.) and (ii)Kumbhalgarh Fort (84 kms) clubbed with Ranakpur (further 55 kms.). If time permits, one can have day trip to Eklingji, Nathdwara and Haldighati. Due to distance, it is advisable to hire taxi to have more time for sight seeing in these places. Normally, day trip charges for taxi (4 persons) ranges between Rs.900/- and Rs.1200/- depending upon the demand. Toll/parking charges are to be borne by the tourists.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
We travelled from Mumbai to Jaipur by Superfast Express. After completion of sight seeing around Jaipur, we took overnight train - Jaipur-Udaipur Inter city Express. From Udaipur Station, Autos will normally charge Rs.40 to Rs.60/-( depending upon the distance) for droping at the hotels. It will be advisable to book hotels well in advance during Diwali vacations (domestic tourist season) and during late December upto end January (foreign tourist season).

 Advice needed on Hotel stay
Hi folks I am searching for a good hotel to stay for my visit in October. I would like a lake-side hotel, so want to know if its better to stay in Lake Pichola hotels or Lake Fatehsagar hotels ? I prefer a less crowded area, which shouldnt be too far from the main city and tourist areas. I will be staying with my wife. My only criteria is that the room should be good - clean, fairly large and a view of the lake. I read that some hotels beside lake pichola offer dirty views of nallah-like water or people bathing/washing clothes.. which would be a turn off for me Based on my search I shortlisted Tiger hotel, Kankarwa Haveli and Lakend, Lake View Villa homestay. Please advise Also, how is weather in October, is AC required or will it be too cold ?
