Chennai | 23rd January 2008 | | Madurai - the temple town | Overview of the destination
Visit to Madurai would mean the mandatory Meenakshi temple. We also covered the Thirumala Nayak palace and couple of temples near by [Vishnu temples and it was on the day of Swargavadil Ekadasi]. What we planned but could not make it were the 2 nearby temples of Lord Muruga.
However, a one day trip to Rameswaram is a must. We had the dip at the ocean and did poojas for our ancestors. Had a good bath at the 22 little tanks [or wells] each of which has its own unique properties e.g. some are distincly oily.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
The temple town has good shops for buying sarees - Sungdi sarees. Activities & things to do
Not much for the not so religiously inclined. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Madurai is well connected by road, rail and air. | |
