| Ravi Gurgaon | 2nd May 2006 | | A Journey into the centuries gone by--Destination Agra | Overview of the destination Agra, which is known the world over for the Taj mahal, has much more to offer than this beautiful monument, especially to those who have a feel for history! The magnificient Fort brings to your mind the fickleness of fate, because it was in a corner of this fort that the erstwhile Emperor Shahjehan was imprisoned by his son. The nearby Fatehpur Sikri brings to your mind's eye the fervent prayers of Akbar the Great and his Queen for a son.The city deserves a leisurely visit to imbibe all this!Food, sight-seeing and shopping Beyond the mandatory visit to the
Taj, one must visit the Agra fort. It was in one corner of this fort that Shahjehan spent his last days as a prisoner, gazing at the Taj where his beloved queen was buried. You must also vist Fatehpur Sikri(30 km). The city which was chosen as a capital but could not function as one. Amongst the modern attractions a visit to Dayal bagh is educative as an example of meticulous administration. Agra, however,is not only ancient history; it has modern shopping centres and beautifully carved artifacts in marble and leather products are must-buys. Activities & things to do Plenty of places to visit and hence you keep occupied in sight-seeing.The luxury hotels organise entertainment in the evenings, but if you are staying in a modest place a stroll on the Sadar bazar offers a pleasant pastime. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Agra is well-connected with all major cities of India. You must avoid the summer months as it is extremely hot there. Also beware of touts who will try to take you to particular hotels or shops. | |
