Whiff of Paradise
Overview of the destination
As I disembarked from the Ranikhet Express at Haldwani in Uttaranchal, I was disillusioned at the nondescript town but when our car started the drive to the Himalayan resort of Binsar, I was sure that I had embarked on one of the most scenic drives in my life. We had to stop repeatedly to capture the perfect vistas of the natural grandeur. The green-blue lakes, pine trees smothered in soft green moss with birds flitting around, mountains rearing up to the sky and Kumaonic temples were all majestic and almost melodramatic. The Rhododendrons in bloom gave the look of a mysterious paradise.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
For the spiritual feel there are lots of temples and the captivating landscapes give a miraculous feel. Trekking, driving along long stretches are most enjoyed here. Rhododendron syrup and hill plants like orchids and ferns are the best and unique buys from this part of the country.

Activities & things to do
Trekking and driving along the winding mountaineous roads are the best things to do here. Interact with the natural grandeur and enjoy the dhabas and feel mystic at the Kumaonic temples.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Haldwani is best connected by trains to Delhi and dehradoon. Then cars and buses will take you to Binsar. Take warm clothes and wear trekking shoes on the outdoor trips.
