Overview of the destination A 19th century heritage home nestled in the foot-hills of the Himalayas in the beautiful state of Uttaranchal.
The Old colonial house which has been recently renovated, was built in the days of the British Raj. It is set in amongst beautiful wild oak trees. The view from the verandahs and the sitting areas are of the magnificent Shiwolik Mountain Ranges and below one can see the Doon Valley.
In the evenings one can sit outside and enjoy sun-downers while taking in the views.
Situated in an exclusive green belt area of Mussoorie about 5Km away from the Mall and about 1km from Barlowgunj village. It has a motorable road right up to the house with parking space for 3-4 cars.
The house has 3 large bedrooms with 3 attached bathrooms and 2 separate dressing rooms; it also has large verandahs running through it.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Activities & things to do Barlowgunj, the closest local neighbourhood, is approximately two and a half kilometers from the House. One can enjoy lovely nature walks and treks around this area. Horse riding can also be arranged. For those who wish to eat out, there is the Jaypee Hotel, which has restaurants and a bar, and is located conveniently from the house.
One can also visit the famous Kempty Falls which is on the other side of Mussoorie facing the Himalayas or walk through Landour which has wonderful spots for picnics. Sister's Bazaar, which is north of Landour is a sweet little residential neighborhood famous for its British-era Church (which still holds mass), restaurants and Ruskin Bond the writer. The restaurants serve excellent pancakes and are famous for their 'Maggi Noodles'- both of which are immensely enjoyable in the winter months.
Ruskin Bond, the Indian writer who has lived in Musssoorie for the better part of his life, is famous for his stories of the Hill Station and his travel writings. If your lucky you may bump into him having a cup of tea in the bazaar!
Mussoorie is known for its Schools and has some lovely antique shops and Tibetan handicrafts' stores. If your lucky you may find a lovely bronze or miniature painting whilst browsing for fun.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. There are direct flights from Delhi to Dehradun's Airport, that is located at Jolly Grant. The airport is
about an hour and a half away by car from Mussoorie. Taxis are easily available or can be booked ahead of time.
Alternatively one can fly from Mumbai (Bombay) to Chandigarh and then take a 4 hour car drive to Mussoorie.
The best connection is from Delhi. One can take the 'Shatabdi' which arrives Dehra-Dun at noon. There is also 'Jan Shatabdi' which leaves Delhi in the afternoon and arrives in Dehra-Dun at 9 pm. There are also two overnight trains from Delhi.
Thereafter, from the Dehra-Dun railway station one can take a taxi to Mussoorie which is about forty-five minutes drive.
By Car from Delhi to Mussoorie is approximately 7 hours drive.
