Delhi | 27th March 2007 | | Great Weekend Trip from Delhi | Overview of the destination
Delhi has some great weekend options - Nainital is a great one.
First, travelling from Delhi to Nainital is really very simple. If you take a train (which we did), its just overnight - you can leave after work on Friday - and reach Kathgodam early morning on Saturday. There are taxis readily available (250/- to Nainital 50/- toll if your hotel is on the mall road). Its best to take a hotel on the mall road since you will have to come here for everything. We stayed at Hotel Classic which is quite ok. They took 6000/- for a Suite with b/f and one meal. Rooms are quite clean and its facing the lake. View is good and food is decent.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Try Machan on Mall Road for momos.
Shopping - Got to be candles. They come in beautiful shapes and aromas.
A walk down Mall Road is very pleasant. On day one, we took a taxi for a half-day sightseeing trip starting with the Eco-caves (interesting since it was the first time that I actually went right inside some caves but not recommended for the elderly). On day two, we took a taxi around all the lakes - Sattal, Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal. Nice pleasant ride. Most have boating on them and small eating joints. On day three, we went down to Corbett. A cable ride seems to be a must do in Nainital and its quite nice actually. There is nothing much on top though. There was a theme park but it was not open when we went. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
You can drive to Nainital from Delhi but its easier to take a train to Kathgodam and then a taxi from there.
Please do not go to Corbett. Big fake. The only animals we saw were a few deer and a fowl !!! | |
