Nainital is a nice quiet place, where lakes abound and add peacefulness to the atmosphere. Surrounded by many lakes like Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal, Sattal, Khurpatal etc., it also forms the base for excursions to other beautiful places like Almora, Mukteswar, Kausani, and Ranikhet. It also has lovely places to sightsee like Kilbury, Snow View, where the boutinful nature can be felt. Naini Lake is a soothing, lovely lake, where one can not tire of boating. Simply sitting on the Mall facing the lake is almost therapeutic. Naina Devi temple on the lake's banks, Snow View and its ropeway ride, Himalaya-Darshan point, Kilbury and Dorothy's seat, Tiffin Top, Eco-Cave Gardens are lovely local places in the vicinity. Almora, Ranikhet, Kausani, Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal, Sattal, Khurpatal, Corbett Falls, Mukteswar are some excursions from Nainital. Tibetean market near the temple, and Mallital are good places for good bargains. Strawberries, Mulberry, Honey, wooden articles, local delicacy of Bal Mithai are worth shopping for. The most relaxing activities in Nainital are boating in the lake and strolling in the Flats (near the Naina Devi temple) and on the Mall. A horse ride upto Dorothy's seat, ropeway ride to Snow View and walking upto Snow view, and soaking in the nature's beauty are some must-do activities. Also one can try out the various delicacies in the market, the seasonal strawberries, hot coffee on the mall on cool nights, playing cricket on the Flats - something to do for everyone :). The 325km. road from Delhi to Nainital varies from superb to bumpy. Two alternatives while driving down - Delhi-Haldwani-Nainital or Delhi- Haldawani- Bhimtal- Bhowali- Nainital. Only 30 odd kms. After haldwani is hilly. Anothewr way is the Kathgodam Express to Kathgodam/Haldwani and a 1-2 hour road trip to Nainital. Taxis - shared or private - and buses are available |
