Overview of the destinationThis was our 6th visit to Shankarpur, 4 hrs drive from Kolkata. The road conditions fairly good, except stretch between Nandakumar to Kanthi. The sea was ideal for bathing, with light clouds, not very crowded beach. Particularly on 16/08 Rakhi Purnima evening, the sea looked divine with the full moon, lights of fishing trawlers competing with the stars, the waves shimmering like silver.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
We stayed at Jowar, a resort of West Bengal fisheries, where always the fish items are very good. This time also the fish- hilsa, pomfret, rohu and prawns were fresh & tasty, though food quality not as good as last visit 3 years back.
No place to shop (thank God) except three shops selling seashell artefacts.
One evening we went for 14 K.M drive to Digha, awfully crowded and polluted.
Activities & things to do
Just bathe in the sea or sit on the beach, relax.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
We crossed Vidyasagar Setu over Ganga, via Knoa Expressway took the Kolkata Bombay route till after Kolaghat, then left towards Haldia till Nandakumar. From Nandakumar took the road to Digha, crossed Norghat Bridge, after Kanthi and Balishai, just before Ramnagar, the road from Chouddamile along river Champa to Shankarpur.
Road conditions are good except stretch from Nandakumar to Kanthi, which is rough terrain.
