Sulthan-Battery Experience: The whole region is picturesque. Just get out of your room and start walking and you are surrounded by hills, kairali houses, spiral roads
A perfect place to lose your worries, get dissolved in the nature.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: We visited edakkal caves, Kanthanpara waterfalls, Lakkidi, Pookot Lake in a day and Wayanad wildlife sanctuary and the Chembra peak on another!
Stayed at KTDC’s Pepper Grove which is decent in location, ambience and doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket ;-)
The food is good. We guys don't do shopping on adventure trips. ;-)
Activities & things to do: The Chembra peak is beautiful, the trek passing through tea estates is not very hard, the views take your breath away!
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthanga Range was a thriller!
We were not expecting to see much fauna as we visited in June end. But in an hours open jeep safari, we spotted two huge herds of deers, a peacock, a wild boar, langoors, 4-6 wild elephants, one of which blocked our way (at around 30 mtrs) and didn't seem to get off the road making us turn back and go the way we came in.
We also saw pug marks of tiger on our run back.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: WAYANAD WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, MUTHANGA RANGE.
DO NOT GET OUT OF THE JEEP IN THE JUNGLE.
Do hire a guide. You will not even notice animals without his awesome sense of sight and experience.
THE CHEMBRA PEAK.
Do not take drizzles lightly!
No one from our helpful staff at Pepper Grove, The Base office at Chembra and our guide (who could not speak a word in hindi/english :-)) warned or stopped us from going to the peak despite of the continuous light showers.
Trusting their experience, we started the trek but the rains started pouring so heavily that we could not reach the top and had to turn back and descent to the camp after the guide received a warning of Wild elephants and heavy rainfall which could trigger soil slides - from base office.
We were trapped midway and had to sit resting against a rock for shelter, for more than an hour drenched in stormy downpour, afraid of wild elephants, soil slipping from below our feet!!!
If weather is good, Do Not Miss this one. !
