Manali Experience: Manali, one of Himachal's best known hill-stations, is a great destination for those who love the hills. The beautiful hills (some of which are snow capped), the pine forests, the fascinating Beas, the bustling new Manali, the foreign tourists haven old Manali - all combine to make Manali a great holiday destination.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Its a great place to shop for Tibetan artifacts, Juices, Jams and Squashes and fruit wines. There's a lot to see too - the Beas river, the nature park (a pine forest in the heart of manali), the temples, the Mall Road with its shops and restaurants, Old Manali with its interesting shops and restaurents, Rohtang Pass ...
Activities & things to do: Activities include river crossing, white-water rafting, para-gliding and trekking.
Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: There's a flight to Kullu - but that its frightfully expensive. So be prepared for a 15 hour bus journey from Delhi.
We traveled by Rao Travels' Volvo bus service and it wasn't such a great experience - there are other operators and I would recommend that you try them.
If you have children traveling with you, make sure that you book a seat for them. Carrying them on your lap for 15 hours can be quite tiring. Keep a shawl close at hand during the bus ride...the AC can chill you to the bone.
