"Daman-Not Much to See"

  • Posted May 27, 2011
Daman, around 3 hours drive from Mumbai, mainly known and visited for sea beaches but surprisingly not much positive to write about !
No Life Guards at the beach, Water very Dirty/Muddy, Not much entertainment on sea beach fronts except few horse and camel rids and few shops !
Positive part is beaches seemed to be safe for family visit, also we could see regular police van moving on the rods near the beaches.
There also is a water park but if any one visited Water Kingdom /Esselworld at Mumbai may not be much interested in visiting this one !
Overall Good and co-operative local people as well as Hotel Staff.
Overall it could be recommended for a short break /weekend but not worth if you come from far away place from North and South India especially for Daman.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Food for both Vegetarians & Non-vegetarians available at all hotel's as well as at various restaurants.
Sight -Seeing not much except two/three beaches, artificial water lake and water park.
Non much to shop as well

Activities & things to do: Just relax at the hotel /pool or visit the water park and beaches

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Good connectivity via Roads as well as Rail, nearest train station is Vapi.
NH8 from Mumbai we need to take left at Vapi.
In few months time, the roads would be even wider as construction work is in progress at various places

Daman is good small city near to Mumbai. Nasik,& Surat is easily accessible especially by train from Mumbai & Surat. Vapi is the rail station & from there you can hire a taxi to Daman which takes hardly 15 to 20 minutes.
Daman is Divided into 2 parts Nani Daman & Moti Daman
Moti Daman has all Govt Office & Courts. Nani Daman has Markets & hotels and the beach.
Then there is Devka beach where all resorts & premium hotels are there. This is good for family stay
Climate is good. People are loving & peaceful.
In Daman you will find more wine shops and liqour restuarants which serve good food especially non- veg and reasonably priced.
Nothing to see more but a good place for relaxation and drinks to enjoy with family and friends

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Hotel Sukh Sagar was good in food and drink and the Hotel Marina was also good.
Market is good especially for chocolates and kids items

Activities & things to do: Nothing much to do except take a walk along with your loved one on the beach.Have drinks,Take a walk to the city.Horse riding.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Vapi is the mail railway station on western railway,
Vapi to Nani Daman Taxi Stand Rs.20/- by Taxi & for Full Taxi Rs.120/- Don't go by rickshaw as they not allowed in Daman.
Carry simple & light clothes

Good destination for Cheap Drinks and good food.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Cheap liquor and good food in most of the joints don't miss visitin soverign Hotel for sea food and Vihal Dhaba for a great dhaba experience.

For shoppingb there is a small main market where you get a variety of perfumes, clothings, watches etc. at great prices. Don't forget to bargain!

Activities & things to do: Visit the Jampore beach, Devka beach, the forts at nani Daman & Moti Daman. Don't forget the boat ride to an island near the coast. Worth the experience.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: By Rail - Nearest station is Vapi. Take a rickshaw, bus or a taxi from Vapi to Daman.

By road - 3 hours drive from Mumbai (nearest Airport)
WARNING - beware while carrying out liqour from Daman as it is bordered by Gujarat which is a dry state.
