Dona Paula Beach is Indias actually most dangerous beach in India because the crabs actually were around me. A place for people who are risk takers and want to see the crabs.

Dona Paula, a small island, located on the beautiful and famous sea stretch spans from Panjim to Miramar. Today, there is a black stone statue of the young Dona Paula and her Goan lover on a rocky promontory jutting into the sea with a sweeping view of the Mormugao Port in the background. When you are in Dona Paula, you must visit the ruins of the Cabo Fort, erected in 1540. The Cabo Raj Niwas is one of the most elegant governor's residences in the whole of Goa. There is also a 180 year old English cemetery, open to the public along with a chapel, which has a memorial tomb of Dona Paula the Menezes with her history engraved on the tombstone. Any time of the day you can visit.

"Dona Paula - Must visit once!"

  • 6.0/7

The water is a beautiful blue and green on either side. I did took a guide Joe to get more info about this place.
There are a lot of myths and stories of a Portuguese lady by the name of Dona Paula who lived here in the 17th century. It is also believed to be haunted by her spirit, which emerges from the waves on moonlit nights, wearing only a pearl necklace.
It must be one of the most visited spots in Panjim. If you go there in the evenings during peak tourist season you would find it crawling with visitors admiring the views from the top of a small hillock which has a Greco-Roman type of viewing platform. There is white sculpted statue of two figures at the base of this hillock called ‘Images of India'.
There is a regular Dona Paula - Marmugao Harbour ferry which takes you across the bay. Water sports facilities are also available during the tourist season.
I happened to visit again Dona Paula during my morning walk. It was very calm and serene at this time and an excellent place to view sunrise. It must be amongst the very few places in Goa where you can witness the sun rising over the Arabian Sea.

"Decent Place"

I am not sure why many people compare it to Juhu in Mumbai. After my visit I can only say Juhu stands nowhere in comparison to Miramar. Though it is situated right in centre of city but even then it had stayed away of human debris. Beach has huge clean sand area to sit relax and play. Some stretch of the beach is covered with palm trees which provide it a very scenic evenings. Also, you can take a cruise ride from this place ;)

"Nothing good about it"

Place has gained much name after Singam shooting ;) Though from my visit I can only say: very heavily crowded, street market, said you have water sports there but I didn't find any. Only decent thing this place has to offer is top level view of vicinity. You can climb up the stairs and take good selfies ;)

About Dona Paula Beach (Offbeat Attraction)

voted as clean

Dona Paula Beach is located 7 km west of Panjim in North Goa District. Surrounded by several casuarina groves and palm trees, the beach is famous for the varied legends attached with it. One such legend involves the daughter of the Portuguese Viceroy of Jaffnapatnam, Paula Amaral Antonio de Souto Maior. She married a Fidalgo from Spain in 1656. Her grave is housed in the transept of the Chapel at the Governor's Palace where a part of her history is engraved on her gravestone.

Moreover, the beach has gained popularity for being a prominent shooting location for several Indian films.   Jet-skiing and parasailing can also be done here. Shops located in the vicinity of the beach sell straw hats, feni, lace handkerchiefs, port wine and spices. Sunbathing at the beach below an umbrella is also popular.
